#Pinguicula gigantea catches the few fungus gnats that end up in the grow space, using its large, dewy leaves. From my experience, this species is easy to propagate from leaf pullings. I like giving these away to friends and family.

A few different clones of #Pinguicula emarginata. I recommend this species if you want a small indoor butterwort that will keep its carnivorous leaves year-round and flower frequently. Keep the soil damp using the tray method, and give it bright indirect light.

Pinguicula cyclosecta was my first butterwort, and these were propagated through leaf pullings of that original plant.

#Pinguicula macrophylla flowered! This #butterwort produces a very tight winter rosette, however, the summer leaves are comparatively expansive (35-175 mm long and 25-70 mm wide; Lampard et al., 2016). I managed a couple photos of the glandular hairs, too! #CarnivorousPlant

#Pinguicula gigantea is a large #butterwort species that traps small flies in sticky mucilage, like fly paper. It is easy to maintain, but it requires R.O. or distilled water. As an added benefit (for insect control), this species is homophyllous; it retains its sticky leaves year round. #CarnivorousPlant

CAM #photosynthesis discovered in carnivorous plants
https://phys.org/news/2025-11-cam-photosynthesis-carnivorous.html"Most #CarnivorousPlants colonize wet, nutrient-poor habitats such as #bogs or #swamps. One of the few exceptions is the genus #Pinguicula... they thrive on rocky soils that are very dry for at least half of the year... Until now, it was unknown how the #plants compensate for the lack of water and still have enough to produce the sticky mucilage... in CAM, the stomata of the leaves remain closed during the day"

I went to a rare plants event in Fuchū on the weekend and picked up this very cool Billbergia ‘Obi-Wan’.
The opposite hybrid (where the other variety is the pollen donor) is called ‘Darth Vader’.
Do they fight like betta fish if you put them next to each other? 🤔
I also got a new pinguicula to replace the one I killed earlier this year 😅
