  1. Venus Flytraps’ first tiny leaves!

It’s been a while since I’ve grown flytraps. Any advice for keeping them safe from American Robins? The birds are fond of uprooting my outdoor temperate plants, especially in the fall.

  5. Oh, oh, seems like my Dionaea is blooming...
(actually, two of them did, but my son broke the other one's flower by accident)

Now, I hope it won't die afterward, I know that some plants that don't bloom regularly die after doing so.

Fun quiz (don't tell if you know the answer): Why do you think the stem is so long?

  6. @markcharnell

Sure. They are growing in peat moss. I only have two rather poor photos. The first one is from August 2020, the second one from August this year. I believe I sowed the seeds at the end of the winter, so they are not quite three years old, as I would have you believe before, only two and a half.

They now grow in an old aquarium. I thought it would look nice with the tree stump, but it doesn't, but I don't want to disturb the small plants.

Now that I have moved the aquarium indoor, the moss (“real” moss, not peat moss) grows much faster than the flytraps.

  7. Birthday trip to the nursery. I scored 3 different D. muscipula “Akai Ryu” clones and a S. flava var. rubricorpora. I guess I was in a red mood.

  8. Last year’s Sarracenia bog and the new Dionaea bog I just put together. I might still get a few red flytraps for some color contrast.
