  6. I decided to try growing a few subg. Bryastrum this year, and they really live up to their common name. They are TINY! The biggest one pictured is about 13mm across.

  11. I had my final #Weretober prompt marked as "Surprise" because a) I had a really weird idea, and b) I wasn't sure I could pull it off. 😅

But I'm happy with how she turned out - meet the were-sundew!

  14. Ik heb alvast enkele extra zonnedauwjes gekweekt om deze lente/zomer te helpen in de strijd tegen die vervelende rouwvliegjes. #drosera #sundew #rouwvliegjes #rouwmuggen #FungusGnats

  15. And there are now hundreds of sundew (Drosera sp.) carnivorous plants around our property with most in flower. Some are now past their best, others are only now beginning to appear.

  16. A plant that's appearing in large numbers (hundreds) in places on our property where I've never seen them before are Sundew (Drosera sp.), a carnivorous plant.

I suspect that the above average winter rainfall, and the ensuing boggy ground, has encouraged their appearance.

They’ll soon produce a small, pink flower.

  21. As if to confirm that we’ve had a wetter winter than average, I'm beginning to find tens of carnivorous sundew plants growing around the property. More interesting is the fact that they're appearing in places where I’ve not seen them before, and where the ground has remained boggy for a few months. The point being that these plants like wet conditions.

  22. Sundew (Drosera) Identification

Last year, I picked up two Sundew plants from Blooms at Belle Mead, our local garden centre in Montgomery Township. The labels were vague, just “Sundew,” so I’ve been curious about their exact species ever since.

The sundews (Drosera) are fascinating with their tiny flowers and sticky droplets. But figuring out the exact species has been more challenging than I expected. They might be Pink Sundew (Drosera capillaris), Spoon-leaved Sundew (Drosera spatulata), or Round-leaved Sundew [...]

  23. #Drosera filiformis var. filiformis has established itself in most of its neighbors’ pots. The volunteers seem to look better than the intentionally planted ones. 🙄

This sundew requires a winter dormancy, but it is otherwise very low maintenance. It catches tons of small insects and it flowers throughout the summer. What a delight! 🌸 🌸 🌸

  26. I'll be flying back home later today. I'm really looking forward to checking on my @[email protected]. These are a few photos I took before leaving that show some of the leaves on my #Drosera regia.
