I like when people use hashtags on the Fediverse. I am far more likely to follow a Hashtag, than I am to follow people.
What I do appreciate and try to do is to #CamelCaseHashTags
It makes them much easier to read and it makes them much easier for a #ScreenReader to parse

@BeAware Looks like @trunksapp lets you pin individual hashtags, but you can't group them together and view them in a Antennas-like feed.
#CamelCaseHashtags also appear to be suggested in most cases. They populate by autocomplete and not manual favorites, though.

Of course I rediscovered neat pics I never published. Here's a California Gull carrying nesting material to a rocky island in #MonoLake, May 31 2023. I love the high-key effect, with the only color occurring on the bird's head and the leaves it's carrying.

Since having our HVAC replaced, I've been lurking on home-tech-pro subreddits. They're fascinating and instructive. Also hilarious in that Reddit-comment-drift way. Today Reddit fed me a new sub, r/refrigeration, and I discovered that when it's -30 F., techs sometimes *put space heaters in outdoor coolers* to keep the contents from freezing.
Also that if the temp control in an outdoor soda machine fails, the sodas freeze and explode, turning the machine into a giant Popsicle until spring.

How important, or helpful, are #CamelCaseHashTags as opposed to hash tags that are not camel cased?
I've been told they work much better with screen readers, but I'm guessing your use case is far more applicable to them than mine, eh

@PavelASamsonov Ah, I hadn't considered the length. Doesn't autocomplete just offer the most popular hashtags first?
In terms of accessibility UX, I'm referring to the lack of #CamelCaseHashtags for screen readers.
Somebody posited that Mastodon converts hashtags to all lowercase, but a few #CamelCase survive, so I guess not.🤷♂️ But even hashtags specifically about using Camel Case for screen readers are all lower case.

Most UX designers test across various platforms, but the #fediverse does not.
At least now I know what to expect: #Mastodon #apps won't recognize #CamelCaseHashtags but #screenreaders do.
So all of the #AccessibilityTips recommending #Hashtags using #MixedCaseForScreenReaders face this fundamental problem: they are INaccessible outside the web interface.

@JennAnnis THANK YOU! This is such a problem! When I use #CamelCase #CamelCaseHashtags if I don’t type out the full hashtag (and risk misspelling it #FatFingers) it autocorrects to lowercase. Also, why is it called Camel Case? Or do I want to know?🤨

- and of course, use #CamelCaseHashtags so that screen readers can prounouce them
