Winter biking is interesting. Normally, drive trains last 3 years before the salt eats them up. This year, I started by replacing the mechanical disc brakes with hydraulics. Then the derailleur hanger broke when I put the rear wheel back.
I finally tracked down a new hanger and mounted it just to find that a part of the old hanger was permanently stuck to the derailleur. New derailleur acquired and mounted. Now I realise that the crank is not spinning freely or rather I actually have to use a lot of force just to turn it around.
I remove the crankset and now I am presented with a rusted bottom bracket. It’s such bad shape, I can hardly make the tool fit. I have now learned that I can use an M7 bolt to secure the tool to the old bottom bracket to remove it so there is hope although it’s Sunday and I have no M7 bolt. With snow and probably ice on the roads, this means no bike commuting for me tomorrow.
Next puzzle comes if I manage to remove the old bottom bracket. To figure out what I need to replace it with. This was the end of my old winter bike. I knew which BB standard I needed, but it was not available anywhere.
I wonder if I will be able to remove the old BB on my Orbea Carpe and if I succeed, will I be able to find a replacement BB.

So the bottom bracket of the new #Cannondale MTB I bought last summer failed again after a few hundred kms, making a very annoying clicking/cracking noise. At this point I suspect a manufacturing failure in the frame. Very disappointing, currently figuring out what the my options under warranty are. At this point I wish I could return the bike and get a full refund...

#Biketooter #advice please:
Bottom bracket was clicking, then creaking, then creaking constantly, so the plan is to switch from a cartridge BB, to HollowTech.I was prepared to use a long pipe/forklift/gorilla to break the BB shells loose, but it only took one Oomph with a large spanner to get them moving. Is this a red flag? Or acceptable on a bike that's only 1 year old?
Then I noticed that the part #, size etc. was ground off the cartridge, so it won't be trivial to identify a replacement (if the HollowTech doesn't work for whatever reason).
Then I found why the middle of the cartridge was scraped - a huge weld blob inside the frame.
The new HT will clear this, but if I go back to cartridge is it a good idea to do some judicious Dremeling to reduce the size of the blob? Is that blob any cause for concern?

Finally got the #bottombracket replaced on my #bicycle yesterday - bulk of the job was actually done by my selfless friend. Clanking sound that drove me mad is gone, and it rides so unbeliavably smooooooth now, I barely need to touch the pedals👌🥹

Hah! Why buy a new #tool when you have a 3d printer?
Ok, won't last a lifetime, but I just need it to last about 5min.#cycling #bike #bicyclewoes #bottombracket #shimano #3dprint #3dprinter

☝️#FriendlyReminder: Next time you change your 🚲bike's bottom bracket, please do spend the extra €/$/£/¥/💰 on a bottom bracket with *metal* bearing shells instead of the cheapo #plastic ones.
Your future-you will be very grateful for not having to crumble out the broken remnants for two hours. 🤬
