  2. Why you should support open source platforms run by nonprofits over small tech start-ups: A story in four acts.

Act 1: I'm so sick of the evil monopolists Big Tech Co has become. That's why I'm moving to this innovative start-up. I mean sure it's not open source per se, but they support open standards! And they're far more ethical! And actually treat their staff well!

Act 2: Really love the new features in innovative start-up's latest release! They really listen to customers! I even spoke to the CEO on social media the other day. It's great they're getting more investment, and they've got over 10 million users now! I've told all my friends and family to switch! I even set up an account for my elderly dad. Finally, someone is sticking it to Big Tech Co.

Act 3: Everyone seems to be using innovative start-up now. I guess it makes sense that they're introducing some ads. They're really unobtrusive. And there's a lot of features people have been asking for, albeit in the new paid plan. The new on-by-default data collection feature is a bit bad, but you can turn it off in the settings. It's a little concerning that the CEO accidentally invested in that chemical weapons plant in Syria, but he backed down after the exposé in Wired. And he's explained how it's a huge misunderstanding and he'll never do it again. Is it really a big deal?

Act 4: Innovative start-up's the worst! As soon as they achieved a monopoly, they began screwing everyone over! Customers and suppliers! The app is now an unusable adware-ridden piece of crap. The recent layoffs and African sweatshops are just awful! And as for the CEO's politics—we should have known he was an evil prick and left the app the first time he invested in chemical weapons facilities. In hindsight, that was a huge red flag! Now my poor old dad is obsessed with aliens! I keep telling my friends and family to leave, but they're resistant!

    Anyone know of any alternatives?

  5. Good morning. Best thing so far on #Bkuesky, these labels are the greatest, user friendly contribution on disrupting social networks to the better without egos & the "you're wrong, I'm correct" BS of these days.

I want to capitalize on this for #gaming content creation. 🕹️ 🎮

  7. #bkuesky planning to Lunch subscription features without blue tick 😕

  8. @W_Lucht No Social Media Plattform is perfect. Even #mastodon has a lot of flaws. A lot!

#bkuesky is not even fully there yet. Many many features are still missing. I wouldn't rely on that Plattform either.

I still have no experience whatsoever with Mark zuckerberg's #threads yet.

One thing is for sure: #Twitter is done!

What comes next should be an evolution of not one system but maybe many? We will find out ...

  9. @rootcompute I've waited so long for a #bkuesky code that I'm sure it'll be an anti-climax.

I have to say, this is my second attempt to get Mastodon to work, and it's really firing.

    I'm loving it.

The default onboarding into Mastodon Social made the process easy. Not sure how other Instances feel about that tactic?

  10. Oh, now there you go!

They’re developing a new thang, “…in the open”. What does that even mean? That statement doesn’t even necessarily imply #Open_Source, let alone #FOSS.

In about five weeks that initiative will observe it’s 3rd anniversary (11 December 2019), and in all that time, what?

It should not be forgotten that this was spawned by the #deprecated, privacy disrespecting, #legacy #monolithic #silo known as Twitter. Not a good place.

In the meantime, at least half a dozen fully blown FOSS platforms have been written from scratch and deployed into the Fediverse and enjoying wild popularity and even non #ActivityPub based everything technologies are continuing to emerge everyday.

The original idea was to find this into Twatter and beyond. Well, the #Fediverse has about 6 million users and picks up an average of about another 1500 users everyday across it’s entire spectrum.

Let’s say #Bkuesky comes up with something workable. Where are they going to plug in, considering they’ve lost their AOL effect (AKA Network Affect) a couple of days ago when #Twatter’s deplorable CEO was fired and escorted off the premises by Security along with that evil bitch Gadde and the CFO…. Where?

I’m rather ambivalent, actually, and open to a, “Change my mind!”, scenario. But to make a splash Bluesky is either going to need to be adopted as a protocol by some other successful network(s) or grow organically. At the speed with which FOSS based solutions are moving I think it’s most likely that even if it does have merits, the #FOSS community will just cannibalize the parts it likes while discarding the built in censorship functions and capabilities.

Many of the most prominent ActivityPub developers are wholly unimpressed at the mostly minor differences between Bkuesky and ActivityPub, citing that it doesn’t do anything ActivityPub can’t do except for some things they won’t let it do for the sake of the users and their safety.

So… No E.E.E. for Bkuesky. In fact, I’m thinking it’s probably going to be D.D.D.

    Debone. Disregard. Discard.
