  1. @CarolineLucas Sadly that has been #bbcr4today editorial policy for over 25 years (and one of the reasons I stopped listening to it)

  3. @manchestereveningnews.co.uk @europesays today's BBC weather warning about Storm Bram ended with a cheery "at least it's mild!" Do they not know that the mild weather is part of the same climate crisis that's causing the storms? The met office must know this mild weather is not a benign bit of good luck. And should make sure we know it too. These storms cause chaos ... mild weather is not good, BBC!

  6. @caitrionaGalway @BackFromTheDud #bbc, #bbcr4today and #bbcpm do exactly the same - put them forward as reliable trustworthy people. The latest approach is the BBC says the #idf is looking into it (ie they can’t simply lie this time) and that’s the last you hear about it

  8. @ProjectFearlessness Casson was so good on Radio 4 Today programme this morning. Reassuring to hear such sense spoken, and realise that there are still some grown ups in politics.

  10. On #bbcr4today we learned that 80% of the Israelis murdered by Hamas etc showed signs of torture. Palestinian human rights activist Nour Odeh indignantly refused to condemn Hamas for its murder spree. Hope not to hear from her again. Meanwhile Tzipi Hotovely, Israel's ambassador to UK, evaded responding to questions about accounts of shelling of dispaced Gazans in Khan Yunis in the south.

  12. I appreciate that what follows is a value judgement, and not an impartial journalistic comment, but here goes...

England's defence secretary is a fucking imbecile.

  14. #JeremyBowen visited a kibbutz subjected to atrocities and for some reason today on #bbcr4today decided to report as little as possible on that. He makes a virtue of reducing the distance between journalist and event so I wonder if this kibbutz visit was not his choice and he took back control by not reporting on it. I see a qualitative difference in how he reports atrocities depending on whether Israelis or Palestinians are victims. I'll listen later to see if I'm wrong.

  18. On out-of-control climate change, Rishi Sunak is behaving like the panic buyers who stripped the shops bare during Covid. He's grabbing the emissions for the Conservative Party to give to voters. The rest of us, now and generations to come, can go to hell. He has no future thinking beyond the #GE2024 #bbcr4today

  20. Plenty of evidence that more people take active travel if the cars go slower. Win for health, win for costs, win for not getting knocked over. Craig MacKinlay (Conservative MP for South Thanet) doubts motorists are capable of restraining themselves. He's wrong. Lucy Straker from the Brake campaign was very persuasive #bbcr4today

However I know, because I doorknock, that the facts alone will not convince local motorists. Racking my brains.

  22. Conservative election strategy for #GE2024 is going to be that Labour is waging a war on motorists. Need to prepare and it needs to be persuasive #bbcr4today

  24. Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall was a frustrating listen on today's #bbcr4today. The failure to engage with other harms to chickens than physical, which slower growth won't end. And the absence of reference to plant-based proteins as the most viable alternative. He ends up supporting indoor chicken farming.

Could you return to this @BBCRadio4?

  26. Waking up to the news on @BBCRadio4 #bbcr4today that Thames Water has been illegally spilling sewage. It has been legally spilling sewage during rainy spells and now it's also found to be illegally doing it in dry spells. Let's get it back off its profiteering owners and for the love of god let's move to composting toilets.

  28. On #BBCR4today the editorial line is that #ULEZ causes hardship - for motorists.

I'd like them to look my neighbourhood's pedestrians and cyclists in the eye and tell us that we haven't suffered the hardship of filthy air for too long because of government policies.

It's not #SadiqKhan's fault that carers get paid too little, public transport is underfunded and the scrappage scheme is small. Snap out of it @BBCRadio4

  32. No, Adam Tickell, the solution to the #UCU action and uneven sector finances is not "end collective bargaining", it's fund universities properly so every university has the money to pay its staff. Surely that's levelling up. We choose to be a sector for public good, despite attempts to turn us into profit enterprises #bbcr4today @BBCRadio4

  34. Going on the #bbcr4Today discussion I just heard, #Labour has managed to move the debate to one about practical questions of dignity and opportunity rather than whether or not this society should dissolve sex equality rights

  36. Rachel Reeves brilliant on BBC Today just now. She was so clear and positive in response to excellent tough questions from Nick Robinson. She showed a believable Labour vision for the future. We can look forward to a decent government after the next election. Hooray!

  39. 100% behind the junior doctors in their industrial action and I think the line of questioning from #bbcr4today implying inflexibility is fruitless. These people are striking for the future of the health service which the Conservatives are running down with breathtaking speed

  41. Strong impression Tanya Steele from World Wildlife Fund fears a right wing backlash too - she avoided the question about what individuals should do to protect nature in Britain. Comfortably-off individuals - the ones with cars, pets, holidays by plane, diets high in animal - are that constituency.

So we're left to the tender mercies of governments with neoclassical business models

BBC needs to broadcast that 6th episode.

  43. #BBCR4Today #Cleverly says 'absolutely determined' to d/w migrants. There are 160K plus migrants awaiting decision, 21 returned, 45K arrived, this extremist Govt threatens 2 leave ECHR. Govt bigoted & incompetent, we MUST #RejoinTheEU #SunakOut #fraternity

  45. The #BBCR4today story of women who can't obtain the therapy they've been told they need by the family courts as a condition of keeping their kids, is a perfect illustration of The Queue the Conservatives are touting as an emblem of British fairness.

A Conservative queue means that those in most need aren't prioritised. A Conservative queue is unjust in the light of the profound inequality they created - decisions to restrict access to food, housing, education, transport and health care

  46. Labour's hiring of Sue Gray, which the Tories thought was a gift for them, turning out otherwise.

Nick Robinson on #BBCR4Today shoots down Alexander Stafford, former parliamentary aide to Boris Johnson.
