  1. P-51D Mustang, 'Quicksilver" This Mustang has been beautifully restored. However, the markings are a mixture - on purpose - of both WW2 and Korean War eras. This has been done to honour those pilots who flew the P-51 in both wars. Seen here at Barnes Regional Airport, Massachusetts, USA #P51 #P51D #Mustang #Massachusetts #BarnesRegionalAirport #airshow #aviation #WW2 #KoreanWar #invasionstripes #avgeek #USAF #USAAF #USA

  2. FM-2 Wildcat, Eastern Aircraft Division of General Motors. This is an aircraft that should have become obsolescent during the war, with its magnificent replacement the F6F Hellcat taking its place with the USN fleet carriers; but the need for handy fighters which could operate from 'jeep' carriers in the Pacific, or off escort carrier decks in the Atlantic meant that General Motors turned out thousands of the FM-1 and the more powerful FM-2 version at the behest of Grumman. Capable of taking on a Zero, or attacking a U-Boat with 6 x 5" underwing rockets, the FM-2 was still useful at war's end. This example is taking off from Barnes Regional Airport, Massachusetts. #USA #USN #RN #Grumman #WW2 #Pacific #Atlantic #Zero #Hellcat #BarnesRegionalAirport #Massachusetts #avgeek #escortcarrier #aircraftcarrier #fleetcarrier #jeepcarrier #FM2 #FM1 #GeneralMotors #EasternAircraftDivision #UBoat #underwingrockets #photography #history #warfare #navalwarfare

  7. C-47 with parachutist exiting! This C-47 was doing what it was intended to do - only over Barnes Regional Airport, Massachusetts, not Normandy on the 6th of June, 1944. Wearing the invasion stripes promulgated by the Allies at the very last moment (and with the paint often crudely applied by yard brooms), the C-47s, along with Short Stirlings and other aircraft, would make history that night. The parachutist is one of a 'stick' using authentic 'round' chutes replicating those of the period. #C47 #Douglas #DDay #WW2 #SecondWorldWar #Normandy #aircraft #aviation #paratrooper #parachutist #invasionstripes #invasion #France #Normandycampaign #BandofBrothers #Allies #BarnesRegionalAirport #airport #Massachusetts #USA #history #photography #avgeek #6thofJune #ShortStirling #parachute #roundchute #parachutejump #1944 #airport #airborne #USAAF
