P-51D Mustang, 'Quicksilver" This Mustang has been beautifully restored. However, the markings are a mixture - on purpose - of both WW2 and Korean War eras. This has been done to honour those pilots who flew the P-51 in both wars. The BPC wanted North American to build Curtiss P-40s under licence, but North American said 'We can do better than that!' - and they did. However, it wasn't until the Mustang airframe was re-engined with the legendary Rolls-Royce Merlin, that a star was born. Able to escort USAAF heavy bombers all the way to Berlin, it was a massive psychological blow to the Nazi regime.
