I have posted about this before, but wanted to re-iterate how much in love I am with FediAlgo:

I’m currently on paternity leave so have around half an hour per day for social. That is of course far from enough to keep up with a chronological timeline like mine, and previously with Mastodon the FOMO was real.

Now I go to FediAlgo and I feel I got an overview over what’s interesting in that day. It’s also immensely customisable, but the defaults do a decent job for me.

The FediAlgo hashtag filter section now highlights any hashtags you've posted about recently.

Interestingly the most I've used the app the more I've found feed filtering gets a ton of mileage for me. It's a huge change of pace to be able to instantly flip between whatever people are talking about on the Fediverse. Not really something you can do on any other social media platform I'm aware of.

I kept wondering why when I randomly opened Xwitter, I kept seeing semi-lewds from the Yama no Susume bot. :blobfoxterrified:

Then I realized it's algorithmic, so boob bounce, boob zoom, changing, onsen/bath, black screens, swimsuit tanline scenes had more ❤️ s, so the algorithm prioritized it. I've been trying to build a personal #AlgorithmicTimeline for #Mastodon for myself for some time and I've got a basic version working. Here's how it works:

1. Fetch posts in my home timeline for last 24 hours.
2. Apply my Mastodon filters on them to remove unwanted posts.
3. Remove private posts.
4. Remove posts that I have liked, boosted or replied to.
5. Remove foreign language posts.
6. Fetch like, boost and reply counts for the posts from their origin server.
7. Partition posts into boosts and non-boosts, and apply next steps for each partition separately.
8. Assign scores to posts using this formula:
`score = geometric_mean(like_count, boost_count, reply_count) / square_root(follower_count_of_poster)`
9. If a post contains any of my specified favourite tags, increase its score by multiplying it by a constant factor (I use 1.2).
10. If a post is from any of my specified favourite accounts, increase its score by a constant factor (I use 1.2).
