  1. TIL at #IKTForum that #Joomla once integrated an #AccessibilityOverlay. However, they found that it was not accepted by their users because those who need help have already generally adjusted settings in their browsers. Therefore, I was told, they removed the overlay again.

  2. Thank you #accessibilityoverlay for automatically enabling, informing me to change your settings or disable that I could go to a specific button, it would have helped if every button was not just called button, also would have been nice if you had not replaced every navigation object with a label that said the type and level of them but without any function, and also forcing a mobile webpage to use keyboard navigation and pass through commands to do anything. As a #blind #screenreader user this is very helpful to decide what businesses I will not be doing business with, have fun explaining to your clients how your product helped them with pesky customers wanting to pay them for things. @mastoblind

  3. I'm about to check out some startups at the #WebSummit2023. What’s your guess on how many #AccessibilityOverlay companies I‘ll encounter? 🤔😅

  4. “If you’re thinking about using an accessibility overlay instead of fixing your HTML, don’t. It doesn’t work and makes you look bad.” — Rachele DiTullio

  5. #AccessibilityOverlay question:

Today during my user testing, it happened that the widget button disappeared after making changes in the #accessiBe widget and then navigating the website. For example, the participant navigated from the Home to the About page. As soon as they reached the About page, the widget was gone. Only after reloading the website did the widget appear again, but 50% of the time, the changes made were lost.

Has anybody else experienced the same thing? We used Chrome. 🤔

  6. I declined a #thesis position at a big global company today. It would have been a topic of interest (a thesis about web #accessibility ), but something just felt off. 😬

They would not #pay me and clarified that they were more interested in my #technical implementation than my #scientific findings, which is weird if you want me to write a master thesis for you.

Luckily I already have another topic I‘m thrilled about – #AccessibilityOverlay 🤓 But kind of disappointing still.

  7. @kf4yfa Exactly, and I always feel that most of the #AccessibilityOverlay companies either exist as a tax haven or method of suckering investors and governments into doling out money, or are able-bodied people enamored with their #MachineLearning code with no concept of actual assistive technology and how to use it effectively, or both.

  8. @aardrian I just saw a website with #UserWay and was at first swayed by the bells and whistles of it all... but this gives me some thought... and pause.
