The #1yo tripped while holding a toy on Halloween, caught the floor full force with their face, and bit through the top lip. They bounced back fast with a popsicle and we didn't think much of it.
Fast forward a day and a half and I notice they have a nice new pointy tooth coming in! Their first canine! ...or is it? A closer inspection revealed they had chipped their incisor when they fell and a whole corner of the tooth was missing! We felt like the worst parents ever for not noticing.
A trip to the (only) pediatric dentist in the area resulted in the entire tooth being pulled - I guess repair isn't so much of an option for baby teeth, and it could have affected the growth of the adult tooth.
So now my precious kid is going to have a missing tooth in every photo for the next five years or so :blobsob:β #parenting #teeth

Should I be rewatching #LowerDecks S01 with the #4yo and #1yo? I don't know.
No, I'm serious, should I?? Am I a bad parent?
-
@DrFerrous similar situation here, except the orange cat, the #4yo, and the #1yo teamed up for collective (breakfast) bargaining. Gotta say, unions are effective.

There's a short list of kid's shows I'll let my #4yo and #1yo watch without heavy restriction, and it's:
- Wild Kratts (PBS) - so incredibly educational and engaging all at once.
- Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood (PBS) - perhaps one of the best societal changes recently is the willingness to teach empathy and emotional self-awareness. Mr. Rogers would surely be proud of this continuation of his legacy.
- Bluey (Disney+) - almost more for the parents, but I think the best lesson they teach is on fairness, in play, with family, and in life.

First night with a #sleepapnea mask last night... Took a little getting used to, but in the end was much easier to fall asleep than I expected!
And I went down from 60 apnea events per hour to 2!! I feel more rested this morning than I have in... months? And that is with my #1yo waking up repeatedly from 1-5 AM.

1Β½ year old #BeardGrabber hates the blender and mixer... To the point that he starts crying just from seeing them...
I thought I got him over the fear of the hand-mixer by letting him 'hug' it, but the same doesn't seem to work for the blender...Which means I can't puree the squash soup till @Siiw comes in :P

@vicorva @CorvusRobotica "once you'll have them, you'll love them" and "surely you want them, you just don't know it yet" and all that jive I guess...
I love our #1yo #BeardGrabber, but I'd say it's something you'll definitely have to want as it has a big impact on your life. :)And no matter what nay-sayers say, #pets *are* #family.
What would Merlin think of a dog though? ;)

I have a strong feeling that #BeardGrabber's #Norwegian #ambulance #toy is actually a reskin of a #policeCar instead...
Maybe I should see if I can replace the red #LED's with blue (or white, as the plastic case is already blue?) ones for starters. :)
Though that won't fix the mismatching sounds. :)The #1yo loves opening and closes the doors to trigger the car locking and alarm sounds ;)

@encarsia sounds like good fun :)
I look forward to see what my #1yo son's generation wull do instead :)
Probably something with a webcam / camera phone anf #OpenBroadcastStudio :) -
#1yo #BeardGrabber's pronunciation of 'kusje', the #Dutch (diminuitive) word for 'kiss', is so adorable. π
Probably in part because it's one of his first Dutch words in addition to his growing #Norwegian #vocabulary. :) -
Finally went through #1yo #BeardGrabber's clothes drawers and packed away a bunch that were too small.
Stuffed them into one of those vacuum bags you can use with a vacuum cleaner, which works like a charm for saving space and keeping dust and such out.
Should also look for new owner(s) for his older clothes soon, to save some space and recuperate some money. :) -
#1yo #BeardGrabber has figured out he can empty his pushcart and then stand in it to reach a bit higher...

@kemonine
I'm pretty sure @claudiom can appreciate this #floppotron cover of "At #Doom's Gate" too. :)(our #1yo #BeardGrabber also seems to like it; I heard him 'doot doot' along to it :D)
-
I guess we're having #chicken soup today π
-
I don't know what our #1yo #BeardGrabber is trying to say right now, but it sure sounds like the #Klingon word Q'apla!
It tends to be followed by #Γsj, which is #Norwegian for yuck/eww, so I'd like to think he's pretending the empty food storage boxes he's playing with, contain #Gagh. π
-
#1yo #BeardGrabber wanted to help me fold the #laundry earlier today. π
Unfortunately his way of folding (https://mastodon.social/media/_jt__ELhYNwvEBZYCjQ) doesn't quite fit in with the folded stacks (https://mastodon.social/media/54f4bxyy3TXG3rae_l0) I was making. π
Of course I praised him for his efforts and thanked him for wanting to help me. <3
I bet tomorrow he'll gladly help pull down today's batch of laundry. π

@clacke
so far my #codeSwitching is mostly when I lack a certain word in my vocabulary, or at least can't remember it and want to carry on with the conversation.
Our #1yo son, #BeardGrabber, does seem to already pick up words in #English and #Dutch, even though we primarily speak #Norwegian with him. It will be interesting to see how his language skills will develop, and how much code-switching he'll do, and hopefully realises quickly that most people around him only speak Norwegian.

@clacke
Later on, my circle of friends also mostly stopped doing this, in favour of going on a weekend city trip in one of the weeks before #Christmas to visit a #ChristmasMarket, some of the years accompanied with a simple secret santa giftgiving.I migrated to #Norway, don't quite know what they do now; I expect it returned to #Sinterklaasavond celebrations as more got kids now.
This year @Siiw and I introduced our #1yo son to the small-gift-in-shoe thing and will celebrate #xmas gifts.

@thegibson
my #1yo #BeardGrabber said "mΓΈΓΈ" when I showed this to him ππ -
#1yo (or rather almost 16 months old) #BeardGrabber's current favourite phrases (in #Norwegian) seem to be:
ka e det? (what is that?) (by far the most popular, and repeated (and lovingly answered!) ad nauseum, lol)
krem/crème! (cream)
olje (oil)
and (duck)
hund (dog)
Nan! (the brand of milk formula)
te! (tea, though he also mixes it up with the actual English or #Dutch pronunciation :))
grΓΈt (porridge)
#Pikachu (one of his toys)
and his latest(?): handduk (towel) -
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: #1yo #BeardGrabber is just like a #cat.
β’ if he finds an empty box, he can be entertaining himself with it for quite a while
β’ he likes to come to you for cuddles, but when he needs to fill his diaper, he finds a peaceful corner
β’ one moment he can be sitting still peacefully, the next he's going around like crazy
β’ he loves his milk
β’ he likes tearing things apart
β’ he likes to grab things he isn't supposed to -
#1yo #BeardGrabber is starting to sound more and more like a #Murloc

When I told #1yo #BeardGrabber I was going to sit down on the toilet, he went ahead to show me where the bathroom is. π

* #BeardGrabber points at my steaming tea mug: "Ka e det?" (#Norwegian for 'what is that?')
"Varmt te" (hot #tea), I reply.
The #1yo immediately turns around and points at the stack of loose and bagged tea: "Ka e det?"
"Te! Ja, det er ogsΓ₯ te." ('Tea! Yes, that's also tea.'), I reply with a smile.(Of course, this 'conversation' is repeated numerous times in rapid succession π , occasionally trying to explain how hot tea is made from dried tea.)

CW: baby behaviour
That moment and feeling when as soon as you sit down to eat something, your little one decides to fill his diaper with the most foul-smelling substance.... ><
-
I also fed #BeardGrabber a tiny shaving off the fresh #garlic, even though I knew he likely wasn't going to like it. He just kept pointing and grabbing at it, so I figured I'd let him try.
He immediately went #nopeNopeNOPE! and almost finished the bottle just to get rid of the taste. I felt sorry for him, but βI hate to admit itβ the scene was also hilarious. πHe's happily crawling around, pointing at things and giving me hugs, so no hard feelings, fortunately. :D ππ

Got a #Norwegian #childrensSongs book with buttons for various sound effects for our #1yo #BeardGrabber the other day (along with a book on brushing teeth and tying shoelaces, which will be for later), but unfortunately it assumes you know the melody to all these songs.
Since I'm #Dutch, and thus haven't grown up with any of these, I ended up looking them up on #YouTube. Two of them are just translations of ones I know from Dutch and/or #English, one uses unrelated lyrics to - 1/2

Asking #BeardGrabber βwho just woke upβ if his pillow and blanket could get a cuddle, made him drift off again twice and got us about three quarters to an hour of extra sleep. ;)
-
I went to bed way earlier than I'm used to, and #BeardGrabber hasn't woken up yet for a change, so now I'm awake at 5 o' clock...
Guess I'll play a bit of #MarioKartTour till I either hit another sleepy point or the #1yo wakes up. :) -
@Twelve I guess it could also mean we could #GetThingsDone, but the amount of productive things to do while watching our #1yo #BeardGrabber are limited atm. ;)
-
@MicroSFF my wife has a hard time finding pants with pockets, while I find #pockets on some of the pants of my #1yo son...
the world is bonkers...Also, why do we still have that archaic difference in how buttons and zipper-flaps are oriented? Are women still expected to have servants dressing them?
button position in this day and age shouldn't be a matter of gender, but rather of #handedness.
