¿Sabían que el idioma klingon de Star Trek es tan real y completo que cuenta con su propio instituto internacional, traducciones de clásicos literarios y hasta un niño que lo habló como lengua materna?
En las primeras producciones de la franquicia televisiva, los actores que interpretaban a los alienígenas de la raza klingon simplemente balbuceaban ruidos guturales e inventaban sonidos sin ningún sentido ni estructura sobre la marcha. La situación cambió de forma radical en 1984 cuando la productora Paramount Pictures contrató al lingüista estadounidense Marc Okrand para diseñar un idioma real, complejo y con reglas gramaticales estrictas destinado a la película Star Trek III: En busca de Spock. Okrand diseñó la lengua utilizando un orden de palabras sumamente raro en los idiomas humanos, donde el objeto va al principio, seguido del verbo y dejando el sujeto al final, con la firme intención de que sonara lo más extraterrestre y hostil posible al oído común.
La aceptación del público fue tan grande que el proyecto traspasó la pantalla de televisión. En 1992 se fundó el Instituto del Idioma Klingon en los Estados Unidos, una organización que hasta la fecha edita una revista académica trimestral y organiza convenciones anuales donde los fanáticos asisten para hablar únicamente en este dialecto. El nivel de desarrollo de la lengua es tan avanzado que el libro Guinness de los Récords la reconoció oficialmente como el idioma artificial más hablado del planeta, contando con traducciones completas de obras clásicas de la literatura universal como el Hamlet de William Shakespeare e incluso la epopeya antigua de Gilgamesh.
El experimento lingüístico llegó a su punto más alto gracias al doctor d'Armond Speers, un informático de Minnesota que decidió realizar un estudio de desarrollo del habla con su propio hijo Alec. Desde el nacimiento del bebé en la década de 1990, el padre le habló exclusivamente en klingon de forma diaria mientras que la madre se comunicaba con él en inglés. El niño logró bilingüismo perfecto y aprendió a expresar sus necesidades cotidianas en el idioma de Star Trek, demostrando que la mente humana es capaz de asimilar una lengua de ciencia ficción con la misma naturalidad que cualquier habla tradicional del planeta.

I happened to notice that I'd put my buttons from the release of Klingon Pop Warrior's ta'mey Dun! bommey Dun! (Great Deeds! Great Songs!) in my dice bucket for some reason, and think I should put one of them on the mesh bag my aranet4 lives in (which already has a purple conversation heart she/her pin, a Starfleet antifa delta pin, and a :FSM: pin) before I put the others away in my jewelry box (for now).

Ok #startrek folk.
#Klingon culture rewards those who live an honorable and worthy life. It's heavily focused on military, battle, loyalty.
We know farmers exist. We know scientists exist. And in some parts of trek we see the inevitable clashes that occur.
But we also know that #Opera is important to Klingon culture. Except, I've never really seen the pipeline to Klingon music or culture explored thoroughly.
Is it honorable for a Klingon to enter the musical career? Must they first prove their power on the battlefield before switching to opera and telling the tales of the great and glorious?
I'd never thought about it... until... just recently. And now I can't get it out of my head.
No, I've not seen Academy - I'm waiting for the fall to binge watch it all. But.. Yeah.
School me on this people. As a former professional oboist (before I become an EV journalist) I'm curious.
