I kind of like Tailscale. Once you get the hang of it, it’s really easy to use, and a lot of it feels almost magical (TLS certificates for internal services, direct connections with hole punching, ACLs/built-in firewall).
And the clients for FLOSS operating systems (i.e., Linux and Android for me, also available on F-Droid) are also FLOSS, so I can use the app without any issues.
*Only* the server is proprietary, though there is also a FLOSS reimplementation available. -

There's no need to reinvent the wheel. AOSP is a secure, open-source platform that has been around for almost 20 years. I don't want to debate rumors that Google wants to make AOSP proprietary because there is no evidence to support this, especially since it would not benefit them in any way.

It's probably the first time I've seen “Tails” and “Normie” in the same sentence, It's not that Tails is difficult to use, but I'm really not sure that many “normies” use it or even know it exists. The user experience on GrapheneOS is almost identical to Pixel OS, the standard operating system for Google Pixel devices, so using GrapheneOS is likely to seem much simpler and familiar to normies, as they will already be used to it.

GrapheneOS is not a ROM, Pixel OS is not a ROM, and LineageOS is not a ROM either, theses operating systems are not ROMs.

Signal did not fail, and mentioning Encrochat, ANON, and honeypots in the same sentence is irrelevant. These things have absolutely nothing in common with Signal, you seem to be believing made-up stories.

Okay, this is weird.
I am seeing `tailscaled` spiking up to 250% CPU usage every other minute, with up to 60 MBit/s outgoing traffic on the `tailscale0` interface... and on the `wg0` interface I see the same amount of traffic during that period.
I now disabled wireguard and the issue is gone.
But I have absolutely NO idea why this is happening, what causes it, and why it (seemingly) suddenly started - I did not have this issue earlier today. All I did in between was update the unstable channel, but all packages involved here (tailscale, wireguard) are from stable. So... 🤔 I am at loss...

I’ve been running #Tailscale for a while-internal server and clients up, and it works brilliantly. Host as many services as you want, all encrypted and without exposing them to the internet. DNS and endpoints just work, making it easy to share with family or friends. Access rules give you full control.
For those more comfortable with the bash and self-hosting, #Headscale is the open-source, self-hosted option with the same functionality.

While I was away, I finally got NetBird back up and running, and damn it was hard but it’s worth the effort
Setting it up with PocketID for authentication was probably the most headachy thing I could’ve pulled off, but now that it’s done and stable, I ain’t touching it
If you are looking for a stable and fully self hosted Tailscale replacement, I highly recommend !
