I made a gap of the Broad Rental Market Areas (BRMAs) in #QGIS (because I wanted it, and also an excuse to try QGIS) to try and work out where we can afford to start a housing co-op.

QGIS to (Geo)Pandas – part 3
The journey continues: QgsArrowIterator is now merged, making it possible to iterate over QgsFeatures as Arrow batches.

@martinfleis following up on our chat at #SDSL2025, I finally found some time to see how a #QGIS Processing Algorithm Provider plugin can be unit tested. Here's what I've come up with so far:
https://codeberg.org/movingpandas/trajectools/src/branch/main/tests/test_run_algs.pyNext step: try to make it run on Codeberg CI

#30DayMapChallenge Day 24: Places and their names 🌍
I mapped toponyms linked to medieval cope contracts: agreements that allowed settlers to drain and farm peatlands.
Names ending in ‑cop, ‑koop, or ‑kop all trace back to these "ontginningen". The naming tradition even spread to northern Germany and Poland.

We were delighted to join the @georomandie in Lausanne on November 13th.
It was great to present @qfield, #QGIS, #Georama, and #Egeniouss, and to connect with so many engaged geospatial professionals. Thanks to everyone for the inspiring conversations and your interest in open-source innovation!

"Percent High Comfort Bikeshed" may be harder to package for #QGIS because it involves running a custom #valhalla server currently-- building a graph to generate the bike isochrones (travel-time area) using only the high-comfort facilities.
If there's a way to query Valhalla such that only a subset of the network is considered for routing, then I could run it against public servers.

🗺️ Making atlases better, one version at a time
Not everything works perfectly on the first try — sometimes the most obvious design ideas come late and suddenly! 🤣
Here’s one example: showing community boundaries so that people unfamiliar with cartography can at least find their own street.
In the second version (right), I added a subtle shading effect that keeps the map’s analytical context but visually highlights the selected community.
Each atlas is generated automatically in QGIS Report Designer — one atlas per city sector, with multiple communities.
That means this improvement wasn’t just “drawing a border manually,” but rather a data-driven programming and sorting task integrated into the atlas workflow.🟩 Left: earlier version

If you are at #EBDVF on Thursday and fancy some #MobilityDataAnalytics, come and join our final @emeraldseu event.
I'll be talking about #Trajectools for #QGIS and a similarly awesome @carto collaboration
