  1. @linguacelta @meganL To add to this a bit: when I add #sashiko patches I also reinforce with a bit of fabric on the back. Fusible interfacing is very convenient, but I found it's even easier to just use a light dab of some (textile) glue to temporarily hold the patch in place while I sew over it.

It dries quickly enough and holds the patch in place fine. And it'll wash right out, at least after a few times. Though honestly I've never felt any glue when wearing the garments.

    Awesome, #cycling songs :catjam:
    From Utrecht, NL

I'll put in #StephenMalkmus - Bike Lane. Sadly not on Bandcamp, so here goes a YT link: youtube.com/watch?v=kScYYdR4i6E

Not owning the album, I had never properly read the lyrics. It's unclear to me why it references bike lanes while the song is clearly about the killing of Freddy Gray. The only mention of cycling in this case is that three cops involved in his death were riding bicycles.

    Can anyone enlighten me here?

  6. @kellyromanych @meganL Son has asked me to try making a key lime pie because he’s excited we have a bumper crop of limes. And he has not been a fan of this pie in the past. Granted, we’ve only had the thawed Edwards Pie version which is one of other son’s favorite pie.

I hesitated because I’ve always thought this pie would be hard to make. But if one of my son’s asks for some kind of food I can cook, I’ll try it. This is the one I’ll try. IF successful I’ll make a post with photos. (Thinking of @NorcalGma2 and her delectable 2 crust pies now)

A7. The local Public Library has bikes to check out during the Spring and Summer. If I could get maintenance for them, I would love to do the same and have them distributed to as many small town librariess as possible with funding to keep them going.

Ah, if we're doing kids shows, then you've got to see "The Kids of Degrassi Street". But the original series from 1979-1986, not "Degrassi High" or any of the movies.

Well, OK, watch those too, but they're not nearly as original and 'wholesome' as the original.

(I really hate the word 'wholesome' when it's used to describe anything other than bread)

And now that I've mentioned Maury Chaykin, I'm going to recommend the series "Nero Wolfe". Not a particularly Canadian story, but it's a Canadian production full of Canadian actors. Definitely the best portrayal of Nero Wolfe I've seen. Maury Chaykin is Nero Wolfe exactly how I imagined him when I read the books.

Oh, and the TV series "Less Than Kind" with Jesse Camacho and Maury Chaykin. This is what a Canadian sitcom family is like, I guess...

The TV show "Corner Gas", besides being quite funny and original, gives a really good idea of what life is like in a small prairies town.

  13. @ascentale @meganL I don't really agree with the tendency in the article that non-adherence to standards is something new in the bike industry: there are hardly any parts of traditional bikes that didn't come in a variety of incompatible versions: seatposts, bottom brackets, headsets, cranks: multiple sizes, fractions of a millimetre apart, "french"/"italian"/"british" threads, etc. Why do we #Retrogrouch have sites like velobase.com - because we are constantly Looking Stuff Up … >

#Covid #wastewater levels in #vancouver are the highest since mid December.

    #hospitalizations too.

Suggest a return to masking and maybe hit a great patio for dinner rather than eating indoors for now. Update your vaccine if you can.

  15. @Peter_Panther @meganL Yes the puns Kettwiesel = Catweazle & "wieselflink" were well intended when Marek Hase chose that name in the 1990s.

"Catweazle der große Zauberer" + "Catweazle sucht die magischen Zeichen" (1980s translations from Richard Carpenter's british books) were well known in Germany.

Delta trikes are more agile & maneuverable than tadpole trikes – feels like a quicker #Kettcar (German for kids' pedal cars).

  20. @c_merriweather @meganL @darkuncle @ai6yr Fascinating. I've always had difficulty finding #pants that fit. Usually the waist is too large and the seat is too small. I've had the best luck at Big & Tall shops with pants that have expandable waists and relaxed fit pants like the #firehose pants from Duluth. I suspect that #blackmen were not included in the samples for the standards.
