🐍 Python Term of the Day: reentrant (Computer Science Glossary)
A property of code that can be safely interrupted partway through and entered again before an earlier call finishes, because each call keeps its own state.

@stephenrobles Hi Stephen - enjoying your posts on the Duo (and MPU this morning re the Mac Mini).
Apologies if you covered this already, but I’m finding not being able to charge my Duo while using the kickstand in Apple’s case a pain … With the kickstand deployed the usb port is on the ground-facing edge.
(Talking about the minis … was relieved to see that the new iPad Mini maxes out at 512GB so my 1TB Duo won’t be displayed by the new shiny object).

What can the higher education sector learn from the music industry about AI?
"We may see a much clearer distinction between mass education (flexible, scalable, AI-rich and relatively inexpensive); premium education (deliberately human-intensive and experiential), and prestige education (where selectivity, reputation, networks and signalling remain part of what is being purchased)."
I still wonder what the value of a degree will be though.

How did the grid react as Storm Austen and Storm Boelo passed through over the weekend?
This is something I pulled together over the weekend. It's part of a new video format that I'm exploring to better explain what's going on within the energy system and the wider context surrounding it (such as the weather).
As always, a huge credit is due to all the open data sources that make these visuals possible. I've listed them all at the end of the video, please check them out.
(Much) More soon…

I wish I hadn't let the architect specify sliding doors. The French seem to love them, and they are positively evil and should be banned. I hate them, they constantly derail or jam...

With kindness: https://inbox.sourceware.org/libc-alpha/[email protected]/, this follows on the GCC AI policy that clearly says "First, all contributors should be treated with respect and kindness. There are strongly held and widely varying opinions regarding large language models (LLMs) and everyone should be presumed to be contributing in good faith. We welcome all contributors to the community even if they have not yet followed our policies; we should guide such contributors on how to do so."

Also, this gig marks the retirement of my trusty Mesa Recto 2x12, after *20yrs* on the stage and in the van. The new backline is smaller and more flexible, better suited to the variety of situations we find ourselves in. Will add another for bigger gigs.
It's an open-back Bogner 112O cab with a vintage 30. No mic either—coming out the XLR analog cab-modeled output of the Seymour Duncan PowerStage. Sounds great, less setup, more consistent gig to gig, more helpful in the in-ears.
