Doh! Moot posting that here.
If you are here on Mastadon you are probably already tech-savvy, likely to consider alternatives and probably an open-source enthusiast.

KOREA: "one people, one nation, two governments" is over.
North Korea is reportedly dropping theoretical unification clauses from its constitution after 70+ years.
This isn’t all good news:
“… analysts said this did not necessarily indicate an end to Pyongyang’s aggressive rhetoric against its southern neighbour …Christopher Green, a senior consultant at the International Crisis Group added ‘Normal states define their adversaries in defence white papers and defence reviews and the like; they do not define their adversaries in the constitution.’ “https://www.ft.com/content/7d795bbc-7c8e-46c9-8705-2f06c58eb961?syn-25a6b1a6=1

Done. Also shovelled this path for my cat.

Polar lows are no joke.
Many seasoned colleagues didn’t make it to the office.• Yesterday: -14°, TONS of snow & TONS of shoveling
• Today: wind + snow + terrible visibility. Tons of snow & more shoveling
• Now: wind just started again. Setting alarm early for—wait for it—much more shoveling.

Just witnessed a dog , clearly worried about his person’s rapid speed of descent, bite her right ski as she was cruising down the hill. Result: Ski came off. Full stop.

Dear internet:
‘Silo’ complaints are so whiny sometimes. There are logistical and coordination realities for selective involvement in certain stages. It takes time to add new people to a project and get them up to speed and productive.
And it isn’t a ‘silo’ just because you, personally, don’t get a say.

denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance
What stage is this?!!?

“From the moment of its incorporation as a city in 1837, Chicago has been systematically seduced, looted, and pilloried by an aeonian horde of venal politicians, mercenary businessmen, and sadistic gangsters. Nothing has changed in more than 130 years"
(Ovid Demaris, Captive City, 1969).Fast forward. 2025:
Corruption, venal sadistic politicians, enforcement inefficacy, and mercenary businessmen—on the nation state level. Will it be 130 years? (not 4)

Dancing at the office, yes.
Singing, that too.
A mini celebration of that day the #theruleoflaw prevailed. #no45 -

Unjust, cruel, unreasonable, corrupt, self serving, mean, unstable.
You guessed right. I am describing the person that popped to mind.
#Machiavellian was withheld as it seems like a compliment at this point, conferring a completely undeserved level of insight and forethought.

Using autonomous aerial and ground-based #robot inspectors to collect data, a Norwegian research project is hoping to more efficiently detect structural defects in tunnels and other infrastructure, as well as monitor defects over time.
#testing subjects
The project’s senior researcher at #SINTEF, Henrik Lundkvist, is searching for companies who need help with inspections:
“We want to get in touch with more infrastructure owners and other companies who are working in the fields of inspections, maintenance and autonomous vehicles”, says Lundkvist. “We will be happy to demonstrate the system we have developed and offer opportunities for testing.”

Used two of my backup systems today.
1. Gym shoes and sweats in car in case I was wearing high heels and wanted to walk far.
I did.
2. House key hidden in lock box in case I lost mine.
I did.

Cringing as I use a platform with unkempt and joyless UI spacing.
However well intentioned—switching fonts and colors in a Microsoft platform to fit an org’s brand NEVER ends well.
96% of the time, it ends very badly

Some context when reading about Japan and South Korea’s recent frank discussion:
“Of America’s five big security partners in the region (Australia, Japan, the Philippines, South Korea and Taiwan) discussions with Australia and Japan appear to be the most advanced. They have been told that they should meet targets of 3.5% of GDP—and quickly. When asked about the talks, Australian and Japanese officials show flashes of quiet anger. America has overstepped the mark, they say, by dictating sovereign budgetary decisions.
(…) Australia, South Korea and Taiwan have fiscal positions similar to or better than the median NATO member …
(…) Mr Trump polls poorly in Australia, and Anthony Albanese, its prime minister, seems tempted to profit politically by standing up to him.“

“Small projects rule.” I’ve learned this over and over. And over.
1 - Salient engineering and design details matter in small projects. Big projects would rather talk about the budget.
2 - Small projects seem to allow CIO/CTO’s (and the project manager) to adopt a listen and learn approach. Big projects show less respect, wrestling or controlling the technical team rather than supporting their moves.
3 - Coordination and communication complexity and friction is lower in a small project.
And that last one REALLY matters.

This is my first time, but apparently tech project failure is now normal. Yikes.
“The new failure normal is now officially the technology business, and, for some inexplicable reason, hope always springs eternal. Maybe it’s because the consequences of failure are so small.” (Forbes)
