  3. Zulip is absolutely underrated as a chat platform for teams. Its automatic threading makes it so much easier to catch up on previous conversations than with Slack, Teams or Discord. In my opinion, Zulip is ideal for distributed teams who prefer to work and communicate asynchronously -- like my team, for example.

    And it's 100% #OpenSource!

  8. > Mattermost, Rocket.Chat, and Zulip are three of the most advanced integrated messaging platforms, and each has many integrations and client applications for various computing platforms, just like Slack. Even more ambitious is the Matrix project, which has defined an open rich messaging standard, with its Riot client and Synapse reference server.

  13. We finally got a Zulip server working on Sakurajima. This in addition to Spacebar will be the two solutions we will test very soon as providing purpose chat servers to allow users to host Social Groups. We will have a traditional social groups feature on Xenforo hopefully in the near future. Note that our chat servers will be geared more towards Japanese culture and media, but members who are using Sakurajima services may create private channels that aren’t related to these, as long it doesn’t break the rules.

The potential solutions we are testing are:
Spacebar with Fermi Client: Familiar Discord UX, but still not future complete and rather new, only a few years old.

Zulip is around for a while, but feels a little more like Slack, but has voice calling features.

During the testing phase, we want users to gauge feedback in the next 60 days. The one that the users prefer the most will be supported for the foreseeable future.

Requests for invites will be open in a few days.

Users who are on Sakurajima for 3 months or more, or users that know the admin can request the ability to create private channels without requesting them through a ticketing system.
