Sakurajima Downtime Post Mortem and Mitigations
https://forums.sakurajima.moe/threads/sakurajima-downtime-post-mortem-and-mitigations.4718/

Sakurajima Social: My applogizes that the server went down for a whole day. I will try to restore the status monitoring website to make sure the downtime don’t last more than a day. (the status monitor was never set back)
I will be actively monitoring it to find the root cause this time.
-
Sakurajima Social Update: The Redis server had issues earlier this morning and we had to restart it. The activity may be a bit behind, but it will catch up in a few hours.
We will be monitoring this situation to see if the problem comes back.
-
After blocking a certain bot, it seems the instance is no longer crashing every few minutes. Hopefully it will stay this way.
-
Sakurajima Social: We have found the issue with the recent instability, and it has to do with the security fix we applied recently. There will be a fix, hopefully soon.

We are trying to resolve some issues with Sakurajima Social post server move.
Known issues:
* Statistics are currently not updating (still figuring out this issue)
* Stability issues. I have increased the number of workers to make better use of available resources and increase the amount of RAM node can use.If you continue to experience any issues, file a ticket on the forums

Sakurajima Social is now on a New Server https://forums.sakurajima.moe/threads/sakurajima-social-is-now-on-a-new-server.4717/
-
Sakurajima Update: The server is now moved. It may take a while for the DNS to update.
(The reason it took so long mostly because of the original VM was using bios instead of UEFI. The new VM needed to be changed to bios or it wouldn’t boot)
-
Looks like there were technical issues with the clone. Trying again. #sakurajimainfo
-
The disk cloning process will take about 50-60 minutes and network reconfiguration about 15 minutes. Hopefully we will have Sakurajima Social back up in about 2 hours.
-
Sakurajima Social update: As mentioned two weeks ago, we will be doing a second attempt to move the server. This time, we will just clone the disk using Clonezilla and restore it on the destination server. This process should take about three hours plus DNS propagation starting at 9 PM EDT Today..
The following will affect the following:
- Mirrored Industry accounts
- Sakurajima Social -
Sakurajima Social update: The software is now updated to patch a security vulnerability.
-
In about one and a half hours, Sakurajima Social will go down for maintenance for two hours starting at 10 PM to dump the database and redis and move to the new server. This process should not take long. The maintenance page will show the status. The maintenance window is due to DNS propagation.
Tomorrow, Sakurajima Social will be updated for a security patch that should come after the server is moved.

There was a minor blip in connectivity with the VM that hosts our Forums, Pixelfed, Yoshino Garden, Relay, AniBlogTracker, and Sakurasora (Bluesky PDS). This should now be resolved.

Progress with Sakurasora (AT Protocol/Bluesky PDS) (and Launch, soon…)
https://forums.sakurajima.moe/threads/progress-with-sakurasora-and-launch-soon….4708/
-
At last, we are making some progress in finally setting up Sakurasora, which is Sakurajima’s version of Bluesky PDS, but independently run. The PDS is now up, but now in inital testing.
It will be open for invites in the near future. More about this coming soon.

Now that our ticketing system is up, people on Sakurajima who are interested in testing Zulip may now request an invite link.
https://forums.sakurajima.moe/support/categories/request-invite.10/create
-
Sakurajima now has a centralized ticket system to make it easier for users to get help with using our services. This replaces our support email.
While it’s not required to create a forum account to file a ticket, it’s recommended that you register for an account so you can view tickets that you created in the past.
This is also where you can request an invite to our chat servers (Zulip is only available for now, but Spacebar will be available in a few days)

Testing Discord Alternatives for Sakurajima
https://forums.sakurajima.moe/threads/testing-discord-alternatives-for-sakurajima.4706/post-5155
-
We finally got a Zulip server working on Sakurajima. This in addition to Spacebar will be the two solutions we will test very soon as providing purpose chat servers to allow users to host Social Groups. We will have a traditional social groups feature on Xenforo hopefully in the near future. Note that our chat servers will be geared more towards Japanese culture and media, but members who are using Sakurajima services may create private channels that aren’t related to these, as long it doesn’t break the rules.
The potential solutions we are testing are:
Spacebar with Fermi Client: Familiar Discord UX, but still not future complete and rather new, only a few years old.Zulip is around for a while, but feels a little more like Slack, but has voice calling features.
During the testing phase, we want users to gauge feedback in the next 60 days. The one that the users prefer the most will be supported for the foreseeable future.
Requests for invites will be open in a few days.
Users who are on Sakurajima for 3 months or more, or users that know the admin can request the ability to create private channels without requesting them through a ticketing system.

Gauging Interest in a Teamspeak 6 server (for Sakurajima)

Note: If we decide to provide this, we need to bring up the monthly donations to cover the licensing.

The Forums, Pixelfed, project sites, Yoshino Garden, Relay, and AniBlogTracker are now migrated to our new servers.
If you experience any issues, report them on the forums.

The Forums, Yoshino Garden and project sites have been moved to the new server. Pixelfed, Aniblogtracker, and Relay will be done this evening.

Here is the full reason from the hosting company:
At approximately 8:16 AM Eastern Time, a routing engine in our NY1 data center experienced a kernel panic. All traffic was shifted over to the redundant routing engine immediately. After the shift, roughly 30% of routes failed to reach their destination. Upon further investigation, the line cards did not fully synchronize correctly.
To resolve this issue, we are in the process of rebooting each line card individually. During this time, you may notice a few seconds of unavailability as traffic shifts to redundant line cards. Each line card takes roughly 10 - 15 minutes to reboot, we expect all traffic to return to normal once each line card is rebooted.
[Feb 2 - 09:55] - Remedy confirmed, additional routes working. Proceeding with rebooting remaining line cards.
[Feb 2 - 09:45] - Issue Isolated to line cards, first line card reboot initiated
[Feb 2 - 08:30] - Investigating partial routing issues
[Feb 2 - 08:16] - Kernel Panic on Routing Engine -
Around 9 AM to 10 AM, there were some network issues with our servers. It appears to have resolved itself, but it may take some time for some posts to have their media retrieved or link previews generated.
