  2. I picked up the Dhammapada today and this verse popped out at me (Chapter XIII, v. 172). It reminded me that #sober means more than just "no longer using drugs or alcohol." Sober can describe someone who is "earnestly thoughtful in character or demeanor," "unhurried," "calm," and "showing no excessive or extreme qualities of fancy, emotion, or prejudice." (Source: merriam-webster.com/dictionary)

Sober is the state to which we should all aspire.

  3. Calm: a state of tranquility. Achieving this state requires letting go of opinions and judgments; observing the world without thinking; seeing your environs through soft eyes and allowing sounds, colors, shapes, shadows, and physical sensations to wash over you without analysis. Practice this and it will become second nature. #SpiritualBNR #Spirituality #Calm #Tranquility

  4. I came across this little mantra "gem" during a game of Bejeweled in "Zen" mode. It says, "My beliefs create my reality." This truth is foundational to nearly every episode of my podcast and is basic to understanding your own existence. Spiritual But Not Religious Episode 2 illustrates it pretty well. 6. This worn copy of the #BhagavadGita was first printed in 1944 and contains an excellent introduction by #AldousHuxley. Toward the end he states, "There will never be enduring peace…until human beings come to accept a philosophy of life more adequate to the cosmic and psychological facts than the insane idolatries of nationalism," and the #PerennialPhilosophy embodied in the Bhagavad-Gita is "the only road of escape from the self-imposed necessity of self-destruction." #WeAreAllOne #SpiritualBNR

  10. I'm reading through "Ramana Maharshi: Teachings of Self-Realization" by Robert Wolfe. It's written as if someone is having a Q&A session with Ramana, with the answers being a collection of his teachings. This is a quote that spoke to me today: "When once you realize your own Self, and that there is nothing other than this Self, you will come to look upon the whole universe as the Self....The totality of all things and beings constitute Self."

  13. "The Self, or God, is not somewhere else—but is inside each of us. In loving oneself, one can only love the Self. Love itself is the 'form' of God." ~Ramana Maharshi

I read this in Robert Wolfe's book "Ramana Maharshi: Teachings of Self-Realization". This is a concept I've felt for most of my life. I'm not sure how or when this became clear to me, but it's nice to see it expressed here.

  17. "As a spark proceeds from fire, 'Individuality' emanates from the Absolute Self." ~Ramana Maharshi

Everything emanates from the first fire of creation. Sparks do not become something different when they fly from the fire. We are not separate selves from the All; we are the All.

  27. CW: Death of a beloved pet

Well, it is done. I wrote on my blog at spiritualbnr.org/living-in-rea about how today would most likely be Sadie’s last day with us. The vet agreed that it was time. We got to say our goodbyes and be with her as she passed over the rainbow bridge. She’s not hurting anymore. 🌈💕 #SayingGoodbye #DogsOfMastodon
