  1. As I do usually with the beta release of the next #Fedora version, I upgraded my tests #fedora VMs from #fedora42 to #fedora43 beta.

The upgrade went fine for the Workstation edition.

The upgrade didn’t go well at all for the #silverblue edition. Encountered an issue with a change in the PAM configuration: discussion.fedoraproject.org/t
Did anyone else encountered this issue ?

  2. #YesterdayAtWork:

    - #FreeIPA and #Samba 4.23 interop fixes pushed to #Fedora 43 updates stable. Not sure they are part of the Fedora 43 beta iso image, though.

    - We started looking into how to automatically test Samba and FreeIPA trust interop in Fedora QA infra: lists.fedoraproject.org/archiv, if anyone wants to help, please contact me.

    - Ran FreeIPA sysaccounts demo for Red Hat's teams and found couple bugs, nice demo effect. Fixed.

    - Worked on couple more fixes to enforce attribute uniqueness.

  3. The team has changed how it packages software for users. We now prioritise software that cannot easily be installed from upstream forges (like PyPi) for inclusion as packages into @fedora . Software that can be easily installed is tested to ensure that it functions on all the versions supported by any Fedora release.

  4. Also I had gone looking for the place in the updater where you can choose mirrors and wait until the system pings them all and determines the fastest. Another cool thing I didn’t know about #Fedora is this MirrorMaster technology or whatever they call it - which automatically pings mirrors and selects the closest each time you run a dnf. Useful. Me likee. Just have to use fastestmirror=True in /etc/dnf/dnf.conf.

  5. Even though EPEL is primarily used downstream by RHEL, @centos, @rockylinux, and @almalinux, it's actually part of the Fedora Project.

If you benefit from these packages, especially for your day job, consider contributing through package maintenance!

  6. The Fedora Engineering Steering Committee (FESCo) is the community elected body in charge of approving what changes make it to Fedora, be they self-contained or not.

When you hear about a change proposal, these are the folks who will vote on the proposal.

  7. What would it take for the Atomic Desktops to be the default option in Fedora?

I tried to answer that question in my talk at this year's Flock to Fedora conference.

  8. For those using Fedora 42, who may want to try out the latest compatible DisplayCal-py3, the Fedora link is below.

The RPM installation was uneventful. I did have to go into the settings to assign the icc profile after it finished running, but it was there waiting.

With all the changes going on with Wayland, I'm not sure how refined this workflow is yet. But it's easy to undo.

  15. If anyone, using Fedora Linux 42, has issues with OBS-Studio and the Virtual-Camera mode:

That's because of an incompatibility between OBS-Studio 31.0 and the v4l2loopback Kernel module in version 0.14.0.

The fix for that is in obs 31.0.3, which is on the way from testing to stable right now. Should be offered as an RPM update within the next days.

  16. EPEL 10 is now available! Thank you to the @centos project for enabling the early work we were able to do via CentOS Stream 10.

EPEL 10 already contains over 10,000 packages, built from over 3,600 source packages. This is a result of the hard work of over 150 Fedora package maintainers!

Check it out or see how you can contribute with packaging: communityblog.fedoraproject.or

  17. The mainline-wo-mergew copr of the #kernel vanilla repositories[1] for #Fedora #Linux now ship 6.12 pre-releases that have the #BPF extensible scheduler class aka #sched_ext"[2] enabled, just like Fedora Rawhide will do with the next push of a new #LinuxKernel.

Many thx to Jose Fernandez for realizing this![3]

  18. Fedora 41 Beta has been released! 🎉
    fedoramagazine.org/announcing-

TL,DR: Hold on a bit before using bootupd on the Atomic Desktops and IoT.

We still have one major bug that will break systems upgrading from Fedora 40. The fix should land hopefully in tomorrow's update.

This only impacts updated systems and does not impact fresh Fedora 41 installations.

    # sudo mokutil --set-sbat-policy delete
