We are visiting the #TallShips in #Aberdeen Harbour. An amazing spectacle but the crowds are daunting. All the same, if you get a chance, well worth a visit tomorrow, the last day.

Zo'n whiskyreis met Tallship Thalassa staat nog p mijn wishlist. En blijkbaar van meer liefhebbers want de whiskyzeilreizen van mei en juni zijn al volgeboekt. De 7-daagse whiskyzeilreis die 19 augustus vertrekt in Oban heeft nog enkele beschikbare plekken, onder leiding van Wim Wamelink van de Masterclass Bar.

My little brother and I started working as volunteers on the tall ship Elissa in Galveston, Texas way back in 1986. I quit sailing professionally a few years later, but he kept at it. Now he has been invited to captain the ship for her next voyage.

Day 17, the final day, of my voyage to the #Antarctic Peninsula on the #tallship #BarkEuropa: returning along the Beagle Channel to Ushuaia, from where we had set out. There I was able to pay my respects to the bust of Adrien De Gerlache, who led the Belgica expedition of 1897-1899 on which much of the area we had visited was first charted. Like Bark Europa, the Belgica was a three-masted bark, but a little smaller. The Belgica also called at Ushuaia in the last few days of 1897 before heading to Antarctica. Finally, I joined many of the other voyage crew in the Patagonia bar to reminisce on our shared adventure.
