We need a browser extension that replaces the phrase "tough decisions" whenever it's used by politicians with "shafting the poor and disadvantaged".

I'm not convinced that #Starmer understands what "long term sickness" actually means.
Once again, we see that politicians' "tough decisions" are only tough for the disadvantaged, never for the privileged classes.

It's a shame the ceasefire in Gaza didn't extend to the West Bank as well. I fear there may be more of this now that Israel has developed a taste for slaughtering Palestinians

Yet another study about how "ultraprocessed foods" (UPF) will kill us.
I am very sceptical of all such studies. The definition of UPF seems rather arbitrary, but mostly, if you were trying to define a food group that maximised the chances of confounding by lifestyle and socioeconomic factors in any analysis, I'm pretty sure it would look much like the definition we have.
It's probably being poor that kills you, not UPF.

So has any Tory MP come out and said that #LeeAnderthal's comments were racist, or are they all sticking rigidly to the party line that his comments were merely "wrong"?
#KayBurley did a great job on #SkyNews this morning showing up just how much Mark Harper was prepared to resist calling it racist. I'm curious to know if they're all resisting that hard.

#KayBurley really not pulling her punches on #SkyNews this morning. She came right out and said that the Tories "lied to her" over #HS2 (which of course they did).
I am hereby nominating Kay for the official status of National Treasure. We need more journalists like her.

Wasn't it only last week that everyone was complaining about ticket touts?
You know what keeps ticket touts in business? Selling tickets that have severely limited supply at prices way below what the market will bear.
Maybe selling tickets at higher prices to start with will destroy the touts' business model.

"Data center energy usage is already out of control, but Blackwell is going to pour jet fuel on what is already an uncontained wildfire."
This is quite scary.

Any politician who's wearing a poppy while simultaneously cheering on a war that involves wholesale slaughter of civilians can get in the fucking sea.

Since it's Dry January I think I shall treat myself to a nice glass of dry Manzanilla while I cook my dinner

My Dry January has got off to a good start: had a nice glass of dry sherry before dinner and a lovely dry white wine with dinner.

I know some people have complained that Sue Gray earns more than the PM, but remember that's only true if you consider his base salary.
If you add in all the PM's sponsorship deals, Sue Gray is paid considerably less than he is.

It's always been perfectly obvious to anyone with more cognitive firepower than a jellyfish that the Rwanda plan was never going to "stop the boats".
So why was Sunak so enthusiastically promoting it? It could either be because he's a complete idiot or a blatant liar.
Well, know we know which.

Unpopular opinion: I think the government are right not to pay compensation to WASPI women. It would indeed not be a good use of taxpayer cash. Most of them had oodles of notice that the system was changing.
Maybe those born 1953-1955 who were caught out by the 2011 changes have a better case: I wonder if there will be a compensation scheme just for them?
Though of course you are all right to criticise the government for breaking their pre-election promises.

Wow, that was a helluva finish.
If you haven't yet seen today's exciting finale of the Tour de France Femmes and you enjoy watching bike racing, you might want to watch it.
I am totally in awe of all the riders who made that such a great watch.

I think one positive thing that can be said about yesterday's budget, is that, despite some disappointing things in it, taken as a whole, it wasn't an unmitigated clusterfuck.
I suspect Reeve's job is now safe until after the May elections, at which point, surely she and Starmer are toast.

In case anyone watching the news coverage of the A level results today is wondering whether boys do A levels too, I can confirm that my nephew is getting his A level results today.
