I see that #Burnham is just as happy as #Starmer was to let black and brown people risk their lives crossing the channel rather than giving them safe and legal routes to claim asylum, just so he can show the tabloid press and racist voters that he can be mean to foreigners too.

Stop the boats? Contrary to what many will tell you about the UK having open borders and welcoming arms, if it was even slightly simple to halt unofficial migration we'd have already done it.
You can't contain things that are that keen to escape their containment. You can dam a river, and it will stop it for a while until it flows around it or suddenly bursts — and then you have a worse situation to deal with.
Excess migration can only really be solved at source, which in this case means tackling conflict and human rights issues in the originating countries, plus – and most people don't want to hear this – tackling climate change, because I can assure you that nothing is gonna cause mass migration quite like vast swathes of the planet becoming uninhabitable.

I see the BBC are deploying significant investigative resources to make sure they remind us plebs that the real threat to us all comes from poor brown people on small boats.
Perish the thought that they should deploy those resources on investigating rich white people defrauding the taxpayer or buying influence over government.
It would never do to let the plebs know what the real threat is, would it?

French coastal services rescue more than 100 migrants crossing the Channel.
Rescue teams on France’s north coast saved at least 119 people attempting to cross the Channel from France to the United Kingdom over the weekend, with one person rushed to hospital.
Last Thursday, the two countries signed a three-year deal to stop undocumented migrants from making the risky crossing.

Under the agreement, France will step up patrols along its coast, increasing the number of officers by more than 50% to 1400 by 2029, while the UK will provide up to €766 million (£664m) in funding.

My tow-capable car is in the shop, so it's my first weekend in a bit to not be out on the water...so I will share some photos instead!
Two weeks ago, I took my boat "Peregrine" to Lake Union to join Seattle's Center for Wooden Boats for some racing. Amazingly, I seemed to do alright and was sent home with an award to add to Peregrine's collection from previous owners.
Last weekend, my wife and I enjoyed the morning out on Lake Washington. The idea had been to test out the new little electric trolling motor's range...but the wind was too good to pass up and the sails went up quickly. Shoutout to the other small boat sailor we saw blasting along even faster than us in his Gig Harbor Point Defiance!
