  1. @zak So. I’m at the Red Hat Summit this week and there is discussion about something you might be interested in.

bootc (the main tool for RHEL Image Mode) allows you to basically create your own immutable OS image. It’s sort of like… rolling your own distro but using tools similar to creating docker container images rather than compiling from scratch.

The intent is of course virtualization - but you can deploy them on bare metal.

    docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/b

It may be a heavier lift than you want to mess with - but it’s pretty interesting nonetheless.

  7. On a clean install of Fedora 44 (Asahi), plasma-login-manager does not honor the system locale. It's launched as a different user (plasmalogin) but it has a separate plasma locale rc in /var/lib/plasmalogin/.config. Editing it works around the issue. I might open a bug later, but if you want to, go ahead!
Edit: this seems to be a downstream bug.

  8. The PDP-10 computer's 60 years old. It shaped early computing culture, made multitaksing common and helped build the early internet. It ran the Incompatible Timesharing System (ITS), an OS that pioneered modern features, some still unbeat to this day, and gave birth to #Emacs. 9. Thanks to @adamw, who dared to suggest we try it, we now have a small patch for #virtualenv in #Fedora to enable creation of #Python 3.6 virtual environments.

Hence, you can use #tox to test your code on Python 3.6 to 3.15, without the need for nasty hacks -- github.com/tox-dev/tox/issues/

Supporting testing on 3.6 is important to us, as many developers targeting #RHEL 8 still need to support it. (Python 3.6 is the new Python 2.6.)

    Anyway, test it out:

What does bootc actually look like when it's running in production? James Harmison joins us to talk about building custom bootc images across wildly different contexts: NVIDIA drivers, AGX Orin hardware, replacing RHCOS in OpenShift, and even a couch gaming rig.
Real world. Real use cases. No lab bubbles.

  15. Chis Idoko is a contributor from Nigeria who joined us through @outreachy and is always looking for an opportunity to help. You've probably claimed a Fedora Badge that he designed! Another great perspective on the community for Fedora Week of Diversity.

  16. I shared my story for Fedora Week of Diversity, but I don't think I understood the assignment like our other contributors lol

Anyway, it is a high level look at how I help with marketing in Fedora, including how I manage social media. If you run or are interested in running social media for your project, maybe my workflow can spark some ideas for you.

  17. "I really like that Fedora takes initiative and helps people get to know each other, even if they do not belong to the same team, which helps in cross-collaboration, concurrent engineering, developing a sense of ownership, and increasing community inclusivity."

Thanks to Nikita Tripathi for sharing her experience in Fedora!

  18. Besides engineering contributors, we're also grateful to have contributors like @rolandixor who help us with design needs, including our precious Fedora Badges! Roland came to Fedora after years of steering clear due to Fedora having an image of being too complex. Happy to have him share his story for Fedora Week of Diversity!

  19. For day 1 of the Fedora Week of Diversity we have Ankur Sinha's experience! He learned about the community during college and today he contributes in the Nueroscience SIG and Ask Fedora, encouraging open science and helping others get plugged into the community.

  20. Fedora Week of Diversity (FWD) is happening on Jun 17-22! This is a time when we recognize the diverse community we have and listen to each other's stories. This year's theme is "Empowering Diversity, Enriching Communities."

For that whole week we will be sharing content, but on Jun 21-22 we will have a two day virtual event.

CfP deadline is May 11. Learn how you can be a part of this!

trae , mientras que la v43 trae . Entonces, al actualizar el SO, todo peta, porque no puedes usar `postgresql-setup --upgrade`, ya que tu cluster es v16 y el upgrade sólo sirve de v17 a v18.

  22. As I do usually with the beta release of the next #Fedora version, I upgraded my tests #fedora VMs from #fedora42 to #fedora43 beta.

The upgrade went fine for the Workstation edition.

The upgrade didn’t go well at all for the #silverblue edition. Encountered an issue with a change in the PAM configuration: discussion.fedoraproject.org/t
