@JacobPhD I mean, silly/cutsey names in scientific software have been around for a while, tho (remember the vegan R package?) that being said, that argument is not cool.
Here's a fun one: I am partially responsible for dozens of serious scientific papers invoking the name of a Pokémon glitch called #missingno. Back in 2013, I named a function missingno in my R package. Five years later, I am asked to peer review a Python package named 'missingno', whose name was inspired by my function: https://github.com/openjournals/joss-reviews/issues/443#issuecomment-360814979

Dealing with Family Medical Leave in the US is hard enough without HR sending you forms that expired in 2018.
For anyone who needs it, the current form is: https://www.dol.gov/sites/dolgov/files/WHD/legacy/files/WH-381.pdf

There's something about the comfort of an album from your youth that snuck up on you. I found Emilíana Torrini's "Fisherman's Woman" when I was a college DJ (#KTRM #Kirksville) and I think it was one of the first acoustic(-ish) albums I ever bought. It just hit me in a different way and every time I come back to it, it still sounds wonderful.

I had forgotten about apple's weird thing about developer tools. I was working in nvim and I kept getting warnings about #xcodebuild. When I exited, I found that git wasn't working and I needed to log in as root and use `sudo xcodebuild -license` to get back my #git.
I did that and then found that my commits couldn't be signed by my #gpg key and I had to temporarily move my `~/.gnupg/gpg-agent.conf`, run `gpgconf --kill gpgagent`, run `gpg --clearsign <<< "hello"` and re-enter my passphrase.

This is by far my favorite use of a HereDoc string and OF COURSE it's in the original #cowsay code:
```
Got myself a new front tray for my #Benno #eScout and its inaugural ride was transporting a 25 pound box of chocolate a half mile to our new home, which is a great way to end off the #WeekWithoutDriving.
@ascentale @genex A1. Posting from Beaverton, OR. I’ve got two cycles: a purple #Schwinn prelude frame with really nice components and a slate-grey #Benno e-scout. I really wish my Benno wasn’t the color of asphalt, tho. Prior to these, I rode single-speed cruisers.
Both pictures are from the Oregon Zoo with identical accessories for size comparison.
@ascentale @rodbotic #BikeNite A1. My typical ride is 7 miles to the library with a good stretch along a power line linear park in #Beaverton #PDX. It’s kinda fragmented with narrow walking paths and sections where I have to cross pretty busy roads (Farmington, TV Highway, and Murray). On sunny days, I can take my #Schwinn Prelude acoustic and others I take my #Benno E-Scout.
What I meant to say: Built to Spill and Yo La Tengo were fucking fantastic tonight in #PDX
I also really love the dynamic of #YLT: Georgia and James are solid as a fucking rock while Ira turns into a human noodle with a guitar.
I don’t really know what a guitar did to Ira Kaplan when he was younger, but he straight up murdered like 10 of them on stage, even throwing one of them into the audience.
Today in pleasing transitions:
The #DropNineteens 1992 album #Delaware fades really well into the #AphexTwin 2003 album #26MixesForCash.
Last week, I updated #adegenet on #CRAN. This is an important update as it fixes a memory overflow problem for SNP data that has existed since 2016.
If you use #PopGen packages that import adegenet (e.g. #poppr, #vcfR, or #dartR), then you should update.
I'm in a situation where an organization has a #ReadTheDocs website registered as `<project>.io` (via #NameCheap). Note that no one in this organization are experts or even practitioners of web publishing. People are realizing that the documentation site is not the best landing page and want to do two things:
1. move the documentation site to `docs.<project>.io`
2. set `<project>.io` to host the landing page built on #GitHub with links out to `<project>.io`The question is: how the heck does one go about doing this without borking everything? It's clear that external links to the documentation would need to change, but in the meantime, I can see the following:
1. register `docs.<project>.io` and add that to the domains in #ReadTheDocs
2. set `<project>.io` as the CNAME for the GitHub site
3. add JavaScript to the 404 page that detects if the link is attempting to point to the documentation site and provide the correct redirect. -
I finished #Merriment last week and I can’t stop thinking about it. The loneliness of it all combined with Mack’s loosening grip on reality just hits so hard. The way her friends show up for her (though I don’t think either of those words are right) just feels different than how mental illness is normally portrayed.
@lwpembleton it was gradual for me. Grad school used it for stats classes and my advisor suggested to rewrite a standalone population genetics program in R. He then suggested to make it into a package and sent me to one of Hadley Wickham’s trainings (pre-RStudio). I then found out about #knitr and stated making websites in R and was hooked.
Absolutely devastating news. I would not have accomplished what I have accomplished in the last decade without Yihui's work on #knitr. If you've ever encountered a website, report, or book built with #RStats in recent memory, you have Yihui to thank.
And another ding for #VScode/#positron as a package developer: I cannot run #roxygen examples (at least I can still do that in #Nvim (or a simulacrum of it as long as I'm careful: https://github.com/R-nvim/R.nvim/issues/106))
[edit: I have to run the roxygen comments line-by-line: https://github.com/posit-dev/positron/issues/1410#issuecomment-1787438498]
Last month I switched over from using #NvimR to #RNvim (the lua-based successor), which uses #TreeSitter for syntax highlighting. It was hard enough to do the transition and the realize that debugging support was turned off, but one of the biggest disappointments is the lack of #roxygen highlighting (https://github.com/r-lib/tree-sitter-r/issues/68), which is actually default in #Nvim :blobfoxcry2: I was thinking to switch over to #VScode or #positron, but having to learn new shortcuts for everything make me sad.
TIL you can include multiple `#' @examples` and `#' @examplesIf` statements in your #roxygen2 #RStats code for conditional examples based on the user's system state.
I had previously thought that you could only use `#' @examples` OR `#' @examplesIf`, but never both. This is fantastic news!
