Exhausting day prepping #FOGProject for imaging for 60+ classroom laptops. Ipxe kernel panics not helping me achieve an early get-away. Hopefully Monday morning brings positive results.

Back to work today, prepping for a software update and 60 classroom computer re-imaging. Then, next week, I’ve got to check and update 24 industrial control system teaching boxes and 20 IoT collections for our next set of #CyberSecurity lessons. 🤓
In education, everything is cyclical.

A #University #Technicians job is never boring.
This last fortnight I've assembled a new server rack, installed the UPS and Dell hardware, and configured a five-server #Proxmox cluster to host VMs on for our upcoming MSc Cyber Security courses.
Most of this is new to me, so a great learning opportunity. 🤓

Setting up 10 fresh-out-of-the-box two-year-old Samsung Galaxy A04s mobile phones for a IoT classroom demonstration, and I'm reminded why I hate #Android OS so much.
I'm on the sixth round of OS updates, and I think there's at least another two more to go before they're secure enough to hand over to our students.

Thoroughly impressed with Dept. Q on #Netflix. It’s a really good Scottish police drama, with huge bouts of black comedy, thrills and suspense. 🎭 Am also glad to hear that a second season has been commissioned.

Just finished watching the last ever episode of #ResidentAlien. All plot point neatly tied up, emotional farewells, and an incredibly satisfying ending.
I’ve really enjoyed this series. Alan Tudyk and Sara Tomko led a wonderful and eclectic cast in this comedy drama. 🎭 I’m gonna miss sitting down to watch this every evening.

Trying to quit #X / #Twitter is made more difficult when governments, councils, emergency services, news agencies, and universities don't publish #RSS feeds.
Fortunately, my own employer, #UniversityofBristol is unusual in that they do: https://www.bristol.ac.uk/news/news-feeds/

@DBailey635 @ldodds And the funkiest one-operator #BBSes were occasionally unavailable because their owner was using the phone line themselves. I know because I ran one on a #Amiga 500 with two floppy disk drives out of my bedroom.

@EUCommission This is almost the very definition of a #Gadgetbahn... no better than a private car or robo-taxi without route flexibility!
If you want public transit to succeed while efficiently transporting the masses and reducing dependence on private vehicles, then fund cycling, buses, trams and light rail instead.

Does anyone out there know how to enable #DisplayPort in #Debian running on a #Siemens Simatic #IoT2050? :debian: :linux:

@stevetheboater There are plans, but no funding, for a link between Euston and St Pancras, which would enable this. We'll probably get it in 2050. #HS2 to #HS1

@Seb For the car -heads out there, the YouTube channel Auto Shenanigans explains the complexities and oddities of the UK's motorway network in excruciating detail, but in a light-hearted tone: https://www.youtube.com/@AutoShenanigans
Pretty much all fault for the messed up transport networks in the UK rests at the feet of Ernest Marples (Boo! Hiss!)

I knew that cars were really bad for everyone, but this video shows that I’d seriously underestimated the actual and extensive harm they cause. Please watch.

The combine #harvesters are out tonight, clearing the fields of wheat near our home, which can only mean one thing… our cat Charlie will be bringing home #mice. 🐁

My partner just asked me: “Is it a #HotFuzz watching day?”. My dear lady, any day is potentially a Hot Fuzz watching day!

Wow. Maybe we should dump elections and just hold a lottery to fill parliament.
Choose random citizens between majority and retirement age, allow selectees to refuse, but offer a good wage and enhanced pension in return for service.

I followed the previous film with Shinkai’s “Suzume”, which has thoroughly proved to me that not all new anime is bad. Ghibli has been outdone… visually and story-wise. 8/10
