  4. “The modern proliferation of winged trilobites is as much a product of scientific meme-based humour as it is of genetic and ecological terrorism. Example: the terrifying & beautiful ’Cyphaspis aestiva’.”

  6. The problem of the US military is that they can not make out (or admit) that a bunch of bombs hitting #Iran with extreme accuracy can still be a #Tactical failure. Why? it is more than obvious that they have already failed their short term "Tactical" objectives (i.e. finishing the operation in two weeks) with long term #Strategic ones laying in tatters. In all fairness, it is not the military's fault. #Hegseth_the_Troglodyte and the #Orange_Moron are the ones to blame.

  7. This week’s Fossil Friday is a complete phacopid trilobite from the Ordovician, still in its shale matrix. Trilobites are extinct arthropods with a distinctive three-lobed exoskeleton: a central axial lobe and the left and right pleural lobes.

This specimen was donated by Dr. Monika Shulz and is APS2013.002.

  12. Pictured is a 430 million-year-old Silurian Dalmanites caudatus from England. This 2.5-in- (6.4-cm-) long specimen was preserved in rock that, when carefully opened, revealed positive and negative splits! Notice that this trilobite is slightly disarticulated? A small brachiopod shell became wedged between the trilobite's head and body, causing them to separate.

  13. In 1698, Ogygiocarella became the first trilobite to be described and illustrated in scientific literature. But when it was first discovered in English outcrops, it hadn’t been recognized as a trilobite yet. In fact, the mid-sized Ordovician species was referred to as a “flat fish,” and its ancestry and antiquity were not well understood by those who found it. Subsequent study assured this species’ place in trilobite history.

You're living in the Stone Age of tech because, clearly, you're too busy picking lint out of your navel to automate your menial tasks with #LLMs. But don't worry, Florian Brand will heroically drag you into the 21st century while you marvel at the magic of #Codex and #Claude like #cavemen discovering fire. 🔥💻

  21. Ancient #fossil sheds big light on #evolution enigma, solving a 100-year arthropod mystery
    phys.org/news/2025-04-ancient-

"#Helmetia expansa belongs to a rare group of early #arthropods called concilitergans, close relatives of #trilobites. Unlike trilobites, concilitergans lacked calcified exoskeletons, so their remains only fossilized under exceptional conditions—like those in the 508-million-year-old #BurgessShale of Canada, where even soft tissues like guts, legs, and gills were preserved."
