Since I'm under the final approach to the shorter 34R at KEUG, when the longer left is closed (like now for construction), the jets fly low over my place.
Was just sitting out on the deck and an American E75L came in at 1,900' MSL over my head. We estimate the tops of our very old and tall Douglas Firs are roughly 1,000 MSL, so the AAL driver missed my trees by about 900'.
The lowest of them all are the Southwest three-sevens. They do a longer, lower and faster approach.

If you want see a great aviation collection that includes The #SpruceGoose you might want to note in your search that Evergreen #Aviation Museum in McMinnville, Oregon is now the NORTH AMERICAN AEROSPACE MUSEUM.
This is a great place to visit. Fly into KMMV (McMinnville Municipal Airport) right across the street. With some luck they will come across the highway to get you.
It is also the only aviation museum in the world with a water slide that starts with a 747...on the roof.

Since I am reading Chuck Yeager's autobiography, I thought it'd be fn to take his "Glamorous Glen III" P-51D up for a spin around Eugene in my #XPlane #flightsim.
Not an easy plane to fly. Since I do not have a prop control on my joystick, the sim controls the prop automagically, and if you chop the throttle, it sinks like the Space Shuttle. Having to hold some power in on final, over the fence at 120, touchdown about 90. Wants to ground loop easily.
Fly it to the chocks, I reckon. #avgeeks

I've been curious because I am hearing a LOT more GA airplanes coming in over my house aiming for 16R and 16L at KEUG, so I went to see what it is costing these days for a private pilot ticket here.
One flight school has very good transparency and publishes $13,000 - $17,000 for the average student, and can go as high as $20,000 for "extended schedules" where students fly only once a week or less.
Yeah, and $8.80/gal for 100LL at the field's only FBO.

Just flew a quick trip from Omaha (KOMA) into Iowa's Knoxville Municipal Airport (KOXV) in my #Xplane #flightsim #Cirrus SF50 Vision jet.
Brought four virtual sprint car drivers in for the upcoming Knoxville 360 and 410 #Nationals at the legendary #Knoxville Raceway.
This will be the center of my world from 8/6 to 8/15 when the very best sprint car drivers in the world descend on this otherwise sleepy Midwestern town for big money on the big half-mile.

Just got back from my #EAA meeting where I enjoyed a presentation by a member that built a Hummel Bird, which is a teensy tiny plans-built airplane with a half-VW engine.
Apparently it has horrible ground handling characteristics. His partner ground looped it three times in the first 10 landings, shearing off a landing gear strut on one of them.
Cockpit inside is like sitting inside a beer keg. Legs rest against sides folded knees up, so no room to stretch out.
Sorry, no bueno.

In watching the movement of the #OldTrailsFire I was curious where it is in relation to Felts Field, where the Pemberton family has a large fleet of vintage airplanes and their restoration shop.
Feeling gutted today due to the large amount of destruction up there, but for vintage aviation people, it is a glimmer of hope that the fire is nowhere near KSFF.

Just got this from a source that works for EAA In Oshkosh:
"Good to hear from you. We did okay on the grounds - the storm mostly went north and east of us. Some remaining campers sheltered in the museum for an hour or so. No real damage at all on the grounds. We did get lucky, as we hadn’t yet moved all the Pioneer Airport aircraft back into the hangars after AirVenture. No hail or tornado near us."
This is fantastic news.

Wow this is a rare sight on the Sunday before Airventure. There should be a solid conga line in the middle of this screenshot. Field is IFR with 1.5 mi. vis. No special VFR allowed.
Starting to feel like #OSH26 is going to be a weird one.

New #woodworking project in progress.
I am making a really stout A-frame sign (two sides) to announce our EAA meetings in our new location at KEUG.
Inside the main frame are some nice clean rails (from some premium redwood I had in stock) that form a track so we can open up the top (two screws) and swap out signs for future events like Young Eagles rallies.
This has not been sanded, and will finish with while outdoor enamel paint.

Needed to take my #Xplane #flightsim #Cirrus SF50 Vision jet into one of X-Plane's MRO facilities for some quick repairs to the avionics.
It was a nice easy 199NM flight tonight from KEUG up to Walla Walla Regional Airport (KALW) in southeast Washington.
I did not know X-Plane had a facility up there. The chocolate chip cookies in their FBO/office were top shelf, homemade by the CS Rep's mom.
Nice break from the usual Otis Spunkmeyer FBO cookies.

While I can't build airplanes with my EAA Chapter, I can contribute in other ways.
I am now making an A-frame sign to go out in front of our new meeting hangar on meeting nights. Hangar is on a much busier street in clear view of the KEUG cell phone lot. So I am getting two of these signs printed and will knock out a simple A-frame with a slot on sides and bottom to swap out signs in the future for special events like Young Eagles rallies.
Total cost looks like $75.
