- I live in the UK (aka TERF Island :/ )
My hobbies:
- I do a lot of programming in languages such as #c++ , #rustlang , #kotlin and #pythonlang
- I know a decent amount about HPC programming (I've used #cuda , #opencl , #hiplang and #vulkan compute)
- I own an FPGA that I want to do something useful with
- I really love old computers, esp ones to do with the history of HPC, such as SGI machines - sadly I do not own any of these computers as of writing this :(
- I've participated in the homebrew scenes for the Original Xbox, and the PS3
- On the note of consoles, I own: an Xbox One S, a PS3, an Original Xbox, a Wii, and a GameCube
- Other than programming aligned interests, I really like:
- Trains (expect me to post a lot of train photos/videos when I go on them lol)
- Cosplay - sadly I've never actually owned a cosplay or made one, however, I've been to quite a few comiccons around the UK, and one day, when I have the money, I'd love to make/buy a cosplay (I might make a cosplan post at somepoint?)
- I'm also into Mountain Biking, and when I do it I may upload videos of cool shit I do lol

While working on #VulkanFiles, I received a tip: an interesting file had been dropped on Virustotal. It turned out to be the master’s thesis by Evgenii Serebriakov, the person who’s heading infamous Sandworm team, part of Russia's military agency GRU. Titled “Information confrontation in World politics”, Serebriakov lays out his worldview, describing how 🇷🇺 is on the defensive and has to protect itself against the West. Controlling flows of information is one way of doing that, he writes.

Interesting read in The Washington Post today, about how leaked documents showing how Russia is building basically a "Cyber attack as a Service"-platform. I guess it shouldn't be surprising, but I still did not expect it.

About the #vulkanfiles story I have some personal triviality to add: A few weeks ago I was contacted by one of the journalists involved. He said they work on a big leak about a company working for the russian GRU, and *my name is in it*. It turned out however that for a quite trivial reason: They had collected all kinds of public datasets about IT security issues, and that involved some data from research projects that I had done + published via scans.io.

Naive pathtracing needs a high number of samples per pixels to get an acceptable result, and shooting too many rays drastically affects FPS. But then look at the result once it starts importance sampling the light! 💡

After several weekends spent debugging validation layer errors and my iterative pathtracing algorithm, I can finally enjoy a bit of home-made real-time interactive raytracing.
