Following people in different software disciplines is seeing a post talking about #VulkanFiles and thinking "people are being hacked through 3D rendering exploits???"

While working on #VulkanFiles, I received a tip: an interesting file had been dropped on Virustotal. It turned out to be the master’s thesis by Evgenii Serebriakov, the person who’s heading infamous Sandworm team, part of Russia's military agency GRU. Titled “Information confrontation in World politics”, Serebriakov lays out his worldview, describing how 🇷🇺 is on the defensive and has to protect itself against the West. Controlling flows of information is one way of doing that, he writes.

About the #vulkanfiles story I have some personal triviality to add: A few weeks ago I was contacted by one of the journalists involved. He said they work on a big leak about a company working for the russian GRU, and *my name is in it*. It turned out however that for a quite trivial reason: They had collected all kinds of public datasets about IT security issues, and that involved some data from research projects that I had done + published via scans.io.

They include 2 frameworks with information on how to scan and collect data at scale, how to structure databases for it, how to store and organize data for information confrontation and psychological operations and a training platform for exercising coordinated IO/OT attacks.

I'm glad to see documentation of a strategy we tried to raise awareness of back in 2018 in Europe: The sophisticated combination of IO and "classic" cyber attacks.
