Mark Fisher | Acid Communism (Unfinished Introduction)
"Populations are resigned to the sadness of work, even as they are told that automation is making their jobs disappear. We must regain the optimism of that Seventies moment, just as we must carefully analyse all the machineries that capital deployed to convert confidence into dejection. Understanding how this process of consciousness-deflation worked is the first step to reversing it."

"The French post office on Friday, May 17, rolled out a scratch-and-sniff postage stamp to celebrate the world-famous baguette, once described by President Emmanuel Macron as "250 grams of magic and perfection."
But it was unveiled Thursday, the day of Saint-Honoré, the patron saint of bakers and pastry chefs, by the French postal service."
Now do madeleines, please.

I'd like to point out that this article is inaccurate as far as official #Xfce development goes.
The merge mentioned in this article is for an unsupported fork of #xfwm4
At this point, there are no plans to take these commits and merge them into the xfwm4 repository at https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfwm4
As far as I can tell, this was kinda sorta retracted/corrected in the comments.

In preparation for some other #documentation that I am currently working on, I "accidentally" managed to build a page of #Xfce keyboard shortcuts for the #xfwm4 window manager and some default application shortcuts.
Perhaps it will be useful.

Holy crap! #Xfce now has got its own conspiracy thanks to our #Wayland development.
Somehow, our developer, Brian has infiltrated our development process(many years ago) to entrap humanity!
Brian --> Curtis Yarvin --> Steve Bannon --> Sam Altman --> ??? --> Profit!!!
This is gold! You heard it here first folks!🤪
(Sorry I had to cut some of the alt-text)

I'm not sure that I see the author's premise "What is wrong with hauntology?" sucessfully brought to a clear conclusion. But, I am generally curious to see folks attempt to seriously engage with the concept of "hauntology" and Mark Fisher's writings.
Perhaps the article is too brief to really get anywhere other than to point out that it's a white, Euro-centric position to be in opposition to other cultural currents. Which may be enough. Perhaps I should go back and re-read Fisher's "Ghosts in My Life".

Spending some time, tonight, listening to The Keith Tippett Group, Julie Driscoll, and Centipede and decided it was time to revisit The Music Aficionado's article on Keith and his musical activities around '69-'71.
I've always enjoyed their music writing. Gentle introductions & overviews, well researched, and fun anecdotes. Each article drops some little breadcrumbs to chase down new discoveries. Highly recommended reading.

I was pleasantly not disppointed by the #film adaptation of White Noise. This, in spite of it being kinda quirky & charming. Which...isn't really my take on #DeLillo, in general.
Gonna have to go back and rewatch Cosmopolis now. My memory of it was it being somewhat 'meh'. But apparently I rated it 4 out of 5 stars at the time. Hrmph. Perhaps Cronenberg tricked me. Or gave me brain-worms. #movies

Just noticed that it has been exactly 2 years to the day that I began "seriously" teaching myself to work with #Python (& subsequently #Django) via this extremely helpful Hypermodern Python article.
Sooo many generous dev/authors/bloggers have made this a rewarding & fun journey, so far. Thank you!
I haven't changed the world; but, I think that I have made some decent progress & have decided to pat myself on the back for a couple hours this evening. 🎉

Mom's last night in #Keyna. Now it's on to Tanzania for a week.
When she puts her mind to it, she can take a good picture. I guess it's difficult not to with this view. Beautiful! -

Today, thanks to my partner's co-worker, I have had the good fortune to experience the magic that is Tokyo Banana. Soft, fluffy, cream-filled magic.
When my daughter visits Japan in April, she has standing orders to return with several boxes of these.

Been playing around with #towncrier for the past couple of days.
I like its approach to creating & updating changelogs(plus its support for both .md & .rst output)Between its clear tutorial and referencing pipx & pytest's usage of the package, I think it's going to be an easy add-on to my projects. Plus, I really need to get better disciplined at writing regular consistent #Changelog

Prior to ~1996ish, taking this IP address offline, may or may not have taken down the entire global #Microsoft network.
P.S. Executing the "debug all" or a similar command on a production router may not be in your best interests.😀

The last #RadioTelescope at #AreciboObservatory has been shut down.
"...after 14 August, only 18 staff members will remain to maintain the site until the new management comes in." That is, if they can find funding.

Got a little bit of daytrippin' in today. Did my best to trick my partner into taking "shortcuts", detours, and previously untravelled roads.
No matter how much I remind her to assuage her fears, it's _really_ difficult to get lost between a large mountain range and the sound. No matter how hard I may try.
