I may be going on a business trip to Lisbon next month.
Still hoping to keep up my plan for taking the train instead of flying, and I figured if I can take the train to Riga, then how hard can it be to get to Lisbon?
It's dead easy to get from London to Madrid by train. Doing the last stretch from Madrid to Lisbon turns out to be way more complicated than you could possibly imagine. Basically a whole day's travelling. This makes me sad.

It's such a shame that they stopped amending the US constitution after 24 amendments.
They could really do with a 25th amendment about now.

"Water companies to face regular MOT-style checks in industry shake-up"
No doubt these reforms are well meaning, but they're not going to make a real difference until there are meaningful penalties for water companies breaking the law.
Something that's punishable only by a fine on the company is not meaningfully illegal, it's just a cost of doing business.
Jail time for directors of water companies that break the law would focus minds.

You really have to wonder just how damning the evidence in the #EpsteinFiles is against The Rapist, given the extreme lengths he's been going in recent weeks to keep them out of the news cycle.

If it's true that the West Midlands Chief Constable used AI to write a report and then didn't check whether the report actually made sense, then that's inexcusable and he deserves to be fired.

But that doesn't mean that the decision to ban the MTA fans was wrong. Remember what happened when they went to Amsterdam.

"Only Trump can stop Putin, Polish president tells BBC"
Christ, I do hope he's wrong about that, because it's pretty bloody obvious that he's not going to.

Very pleased to see that the government has listened to reason and scrapped their crazy scheme for mandatory ID cards. This is a welcome development.
Maybe the strong opposition to it had an effect after all. Just goes to show that it's worth speaking up, signing petitions, writing to MPs, and all that kind of thing.

Rest in peace, Claudette Colvin.
She did a Rosa Parks 9 months before Parks did, but for some reason didn't make the news in the same way, which is maybe why you haven't heard of her. I will confess that I hadn't until I heard about her on the radio this morning.
Anyway, a true pioneer of the US civil rights movement who deserves to be remembered.

I know this has been said before by wiser people than I, but it seems particularly salient this week:
If you've ever wondered what you'd do if you'd been alive in 1930s Germany, then wonder no more: you're doing it now.

I'd be more convinced that #Starmer and his underlings were serious about doing something about the deepfake porn on Twitter if they didn't all have active Twitter accounts.
Not holding my breath waiting for them to enforce this law.

I'm beginning to understand why Evil Big Tech has such a stranglehold on the software we use.
I've been thinking it would be nice to ditch Google Maps Timeline and use a non-evil alternative instead.
After a little bit of looking around, it seemed that PhoneTrack and its Nextcloud integration might do what I need.
Well, maybe it does, but after spending a large chunk of yesterday faffing around with it, I haven't got it to work yet.
