Skimming the Divide
Here’s a photo of a black skimmer (Rynchops niger) gliding low over the shallows in search of food. At first glance, it looks eyeless—its dark eye nearly vanishes into the black plumage. It reminds me of those blind creatures in sci-fi films that hunt by sound alone.

Skimming through this week's #ChuangAsiaS2 on the tram today -- mostly just the performances. I'll watch the full episodes tonight.
I wasn't sure last week, but I'm pretty sure this week that they're not singing live during the stage performances.
Some of the singing isn't *great*, but there aren't any disastrous flubs like I'd expect from trainees on a show like this.
It's understandable and I get why they're doing it, but it makes it hard to tell who might genuinely be able to sing live while also dancing.
I guess that they'll move to singing live during performances at some point in the competition.
The cover of Seventeen's "Super" didn't disappoint. I was sad that it went head to head with the "Under the Moon Road" team, and only one of those teams could win.
The "Firework" team was so good too. #Thi_O is right up there with my favourites.
In fact I feel like something of a basic fan because my 2 faves are also the top-ranked in the voting.

Skimmer Symphony
These black skimmers (Rynchops niger) were at Gulfport, Mississippi a couple of years ago. That year there were so many birds on the beach that I might have been able to take pictures blindfolded.
"A long-winged bird with stark black-and-white plumage, the Black Skimmer has a unique grace as it forages in flight. Skimmers feed by opening the bill and dropping the long, narrow lower mandible into the water, skimming along until they feel a fish. Then they relax the neck, quickly closing their jaws and whipping the fish out of the water. Because they feed by essentially by touch, they can even forage at night." - allaboutbirds.org

Here's another photo of a black skimmer (Rynchops niger) skimming along the shallow for food. The bird looks like it doesn't have eyes, but a closer look reveals a black eye among the black feathers. It makes me think a bit about blind creatures in a sci-fi movie who hunt by sound.
I took this photograph at Gulfport, Mississippi.

Skimming ...
This is a black skimmer (Rynchops niger), this is the first I've ever seen these. This was at the beach at Gulfport. We went over to the beach before going to our room. There were hundreds of these. I'll share more photos later. I'm having to process and post the photos with my camera because my laptop doesn't have the power to use Lightroom.
