  1. 50000 images indexed in #kPhotoAlbum, done.
That doesn't mean I indexed 50k artworks though (I wish); I started by indexing all the images he left (35k?), including artwork scans, photographies, archived papers, you name it. Then I scanned some more photographies. And for each artwork I keep the raw scans (1 to 4, rarely more), and a "publishable" JPEG image. So I have just over 5k newly scanned artworks. #archiving #scans

  2. New instance, same #introduction
Hi I'm Pierre, changed from Lego geek to computer geek at 11 when I touched a computer; they weren't that common in '80.
Studied computing at uni, became software #developer. Worked in several #startups, but not only.
Switched main OS to #linux in 1996. From time to time I contribute to #freesoftware projects, last to date being #DaggerfallUnity.
I enjoy #jazz #music (sometimes play #drums, but I need to replace my aging kit now), or #photography #nature.

  3. Enjoyed listening to a @dosgameclub podcast about game, that I played and finished back in the day
    dosgameclub.com/starflight/

Talking of that, the way game saving worked used a feature of some Forth implementations called persistence
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persiste
Simplified coding, you could just dump state, later reload it and your program would go on, transparently.

  4. @niavy
    ?
Malgré le nom, le système d'indexation se personnalise facilement et on peut faire beaucoup de choses avec

  5. Alors comme ça, à partir de 2024, jusqu'à 40% de l'argent sur pourra servir à financer des projets de ?

  6. To be clear I had working setups before, they just stopped working.
6.4 changed several things (remove frontswap, cgroups support, inclusion in /proc/meminfo), but I saw no changes in the patches in documentation about how to activate it. Maybe I'm just missing some memcg wizardry.
And all info I found about zswap predates 6.4 so I don't know if it's unchanged on purpose, or just "not updated yet".

  7. Does anybody know how to enable in recent (6.4+)?
Looks like it's now cgroups aware, but main result for me is that it stopped working...

    $ grep -i swap /proc/meminfo
    SwapCached: 124832 kB
    SwapTotal: 10348500 kB
    SwapFree: 4466984 kB
    Zswap: 0 kB
    Zswapped: 0 kB

  8. @[email protected] Looking at this, I should redo all the scans I did in the first 2 months or so (before I had a color target), and recalibrate the scans I did in the next 4 months (hopefully the scans only need reprocessing).
Around 500 + 1000 scans. Some day. Maybe when I get better hardware...
But don't hold your breath, still have maybe 80% of artworks left to scan or photography...

  9. Un peu d' pour se sortir la tête de ce monde de fous...
Même si finalement en #1979 il parlait déjà d'un monde déglingué...
Ah la la, quelle vie qu'cette vie !

  10. I repurposed one of his old laptops (that overheats, sadly) as frontend, making room for an Ubuntu partition.
I installed the trusty to index text documents and emails.
For images, I ended up using , that has very flexible tagging possibilities, making it useful on more than photo albums. Chronological view and image stacking are also great.
I used , then more recently for finding image , that I then stacked manually in KPhotoAlbum.

  11. Following practices, I imaged everything in sight with : harddrives, CDs, DVDs, USB keys. Took some time because one laptop had a known faulty 1TB harddrive (that my father lost some work on already).
Then I wrote a script to mount the images read-only, and interesting files for easier access. Made it so I could modify rsync filters and run the script again.

  12. My dad died in September 2021 at the age of 78 of an undiagnosed . That was abrupt, he died 3 weeks after arriving at the hospital, I still often think about that terrible month.
Beside having been a school , he painted is whole life since the age of 15, and left a large of and . I immediately thought about his complete work, even if it looked like a huge undertaking, probably for both said and unsaid reasons.

  13. J'ai créé un compte Pixelfed pour publier des des de mon père. On va voir comment ça se passe (je découvre).

I created a Pixelfed account to publish some of my father's . Will see how it goes (I'm new to this).

  14. @metin Since you seem interested in graphics, had basically none; single line of 24? chars, until someone found a way to derail BASIC interpreter and access the first columns of pixels.
You could access pixels natively on , but again display was small. 4 colors plotter was amazing.
had an interesting font with symbols
could display 40 or 80 columns text and 2 switchable graphic pages, all ORed together. Could be used for page flipping, etc.

  15. @metin First personal computer I touched in 1980 was a (80-20?), thanks to a high school professor that gave me access to one
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micral
Then I had several computers, a that my father bought, then temporary access to a (with small plotter!), and , thanks to a Sharp reseller (Mr , in ).
Got my first clone in 1983 or 1984.

  16. @jeremiah
    Thanks for the suggestions!
Some local contemporary art center (Centre d'Art Contemporain des Landes ) has acquired one of his paintings already, but they lack funding so I doubt they'll be able to do much more. Hopefully another exhibition, but getting their attention is difficult

  17. Actually counters stay at 0 with plain 6.4 too...

  18. Did recent s break ?
No matter what I do, counters stay at 0...

  19. @antimnguyen I remember at some point received some spotlight (not sure if that was GOG Cut release or some important new feature), and I noticed 2 nonsensical "videogame articles" on the web about "that new Bethesda game that will still be years in the making" (obviously mixing it up with ); another time with .
Got a bit angry and worried at the time, tried to contact authors, but in retrospect it must have been that kind of "AI journalism" @gavinclayton
