The next thing is #deduplication. I'm going with #Czkawka. I will report back. It has the right technology for a #data set my size.
#Alldup is designed for non-power users that need more hand holding. A power user in this case is somebody with a lot of data. It will hang because how it is designed.

It does a bunch of other things (finding incorrect file extensions, finding broken files, etc.) and is ridiculously fast.
I wanted to write it down because I can never remember the name (Polish for "hiccup")!

I repurposed one of his old laptops (that overheats, sadly) as frontend, making room for an Ubuntu partition.
I installed the trusty #recoll to index text documents and emails.
For images, I ended up using #KPhotoAlbum, that has very flexible tagging possibilities, making it useful on more than photo albums. Chronological view and image stacking are also great.
I used #Geeqie, then more recently #Czkawka for finding image #duplicates, that I then stacked manually in KPhotoAlbum. -
Today's productive efforts mostly involved cleaning up duplicate files on my hard drive. #Czkawka — Polish for "hiccup" — turns out to be much easier to get results from than the piped shell commands I started with on my own. I'm on #Linux right now, but apparently it also works on #Windows and #macOS.

Cela fait plusieurs mois que je dois me décider à faire un petit ménage dans mes photos. Avant de me lancer là-dedans, je voulais voir si je n'avais pas de doublons. Et bien si, environ 527 photos en double.
Merci à l'application #czkawka pour le coup de main afin de trouver et détruire ces doublons !

un autre bon moyen de regagner plein de gigas de place dans ses archives: chasser les doublons de fichier via leur hash de contenu avec #czkawka .
on définit un dossier ou plusieurs où chercher, on appuie sur "recherche", on voit la liste de doublons, on coche les fichiers en trop, et on les supprime.
ils sont rangés par défaut du plus gros fichiers en haut de liste.
easy!autre bon outil pour voir où prioriser les recherches: l'analyseur de disque nommé " #baobab ".

@Truck I recently came across #czkawka (https://github.com/qarmin/czkawka) which also looks quite useful for culling big files, duplicates, temp files, and more, from your storage.
