OMG, the hackernews thread on that vibecoded office suite is hysterical.
First someone touts it as democratizing software. There's the obvious reply that it shifting the work of maintaining the software to the user.
So some tech elite chimes in about how "we run containers, and sandboxes, the cool kids run immutable distros"
When someone points out that it describes probably 0.1% of computer users, we get the awesome reply
if you can't be bothered to learn skills (or even ask an AI to teach it to you for free), then you deserve to not be part of that democratization
We are democratizing software. Just not for everyone.
I had to reply.
I hate upgrades. I upgraded #homeassistant and a bunch of my tp-link / Kasa smart plugs that worked just fine yesterday don’t work today. About the only thing I trust is #tasmota. I know it won’t randomly auto-update and suddenly require authentication and a connection to a cloud service one day.
I don’t know what has gone wrong/changed. But now I get to do some troubleshooting. Wheeeee
Kdenlive’s automatic backup saved my bacon tonight. I spent about 2 hours editing a video and it was great. I had saved plenty of times. Then I decided to add titles and things to the beginning. It was the finishing touches. Suddenly “kdenlive ran out of memory and was killed…”
I opened the file and it was corrupted. It asked me “would you like to open the backup?” And I was like “you made backups!? I love you!”
I lost 10 minutes of work, not hours. That’s fine. I love working in kdenlive.
