My little brother and I started working as volunteers on the tall ship Elissa in Galveston, Texas way back in 1986. I quit sailing professionally a few years later, but he kept at it. Now he has been invited to captain the ship for her next voyage.
I could not be more proud.

For sale: baby shoes, never worn.
Wait. Dammit, Hemingway!*
(* Hemingway didn't actually write that.)

I upgraded to the newly released Fedora 44 today. As a consequence, none of my Gnome extensions work. I really should have seen that coming.
Ah well. I hope the extension maintainers can update them soon.

Hot & Spicy? Not if it's rated at only two peppers, it's not. Better add some extra kick.

Remember when they told us not to vote for the black woman because she was the genocide candidate? Yeah.
Good times. 🙃

Here is the new Congressional district map of Texas. Note how the four largest cities (Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin) are carved up into pieces that are predominately rural and suburban. This is classic gerrymandering.

I'm in the truck waiting for a load at a shipper. It's raining, and the rain sound is making me sleepy.

Speaking of my gps tracker project, it's really coming along. The red line in the image below is me walking around the parking lot with my laptop and the gps dongle. The purple dot is the tracker running on the old netbook. I can't really walk around with that because I haven't figured out the wifi. So, it's wired directly to the router.

CW: Gaming - Elden Ring
I've about had it with Elden Ring. The fire giant is impossible for me. I've probably fought him a hundred times (really!) and I just can't beat him. This boss exists solely to be a gate keeper and adds very little else to the game. You can't move on to the second half of the game until you beat it.
This is making me want to never buy another game from From Software.

It's not the usual bathroom graffiti. You may have to zoom in to see it. I'm not sure how to describe this one, but I like it.

I usually don't post content from X (in fact, this may be a first) but this is too good not to share. Plus, Musk probably hates it. Trump definitely would hate it.

Today, I find myself in New Mexico with some time to kill, so I decided to stop at a random truck stop for a short break. Next door, there is the Southwest Soaring Museum. It's a tiny independent #museum dedicated to #gliders and #gliding.
I had to take a look. A🧵

Emacs for writers? That's not something I would have ever considered, but then, I'm not a writer. Fedora Magazine has an article about just that, though, and I thought it was interesting. Maybe you will, too.

Went to see "the strange case of Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde" by the Sydney theatre company at his maj tonight. It was brilliant. The technical aspects alone were jaw-dropping #Perthfestival
