Hey folks. For alt text I need to make clear the difference between a compass (the thing that draws/measures circles) and a compass (that magnetic thing that shows the direction you're facing). How do you do that? I need to make sure it's clear I mean the first thing (the drawing thing). It's about an icon in the image.

Seriously, how do you alt-text original characters in comic style?
Nothing I could write would make a person who needs the text know what the character looks like, they would never be able to actually "see" the art like it is in their mind and then it kind of misses the point, doesn't it?
It's so frustrating and the reason why I hardly post ocs anymore, because no alt-text is kind of bad….
Any tips on that topic would be appreciated

If I have a well known meme, like expanding brain or clown applying make up, is it better to just give the name of the meme, or is it better to describe the meme? I can see a case for both, and since I don't use it, I can't tell which makes more sense.

(Which would be poking fun at folk who do occasionally make such aggressive and unhelpful replies.)Are you using an app or accessing Mastodon on a web browser?
If an app I suggest contacting the developer and asking them.
If the web page then try contacting your instance administrator. -

I'm not the only disabled person, never claimed to be - that comment's a weak deflection. My disability isn't visually related. I care about other disabled folks with different challenges. AltText helps #VisuallyChallenged . I make effort to manually add AltText, like many other folks who don't have it built-in.You use #StolenPhotos without credits.

@benjancewicz I really wish you'd add #AltText to your images to be less #ableist because I'd love to boost several of your photo posts but haven't because none of them included AltText & I'm unsure about continuing to follow when you're seemingly ignoring repeated requests to add AltText. Are you choosing to refuse adding it for some personal purposes or just full out don't care about disabled viewers??

De Fediverse is geen Twitter. We helpen elkaar waar het maar gaat want we zijn allemaal verbonden.
Onderdeel daarvan is het toevoegen van een verklarende tekst (ook wel alt tekst genoemd) aan media die je toevoegd.
Sommige apps vragen daarom bij toevoegen bij andere moet je even op de media klikken voor verzending.
Blinden en slechtzienden maak je hier erg blij mee. Het is wel een gewoonte die inslijten moet. Begrijpelijk als je het vergeet. Daar hebben we wat opgevonden. Volg
en iedere keer dat je het vergeet herinnert die je eraan.
Maar dat is niet alles. Je kunt nog meer doen. Als je media tegenkomt zonder beschrijving kun jij die toevoegen. Beantwoord het bericht met een alttekst en voeg de hashtag #Alt4You toe
En dan tot slotte als je et echt niet meer uitkomt kun je om hulp vragen door in je text de tag #AltTextHelp te plaatsen
