    To be a purposeful—and intentional- pedant, I take this stance on lower-case “r” #republicanism

  2. @cjpaloma @zakalwe @Sh4d0w_H34rt Most people I see out & about are pretty cool folks. I'd only blast the ones who aren't & who try to run others off trails. #NotATerrorist

  3. @cjpaloma One of our local high school mountain bike teams have a tradition of saying “Howdy” when passing other folks on the trail. It’s important, I agree. We teach this politeness as part of our coaching. #mtb #nica

  4. CW: US Pol: dealing with lying

    @cjpaloma

#Grievance culture is carrying unprocessed #grief.

  5. @cjpaloma @Lana I first learned about that second paragraph in Allow Me To Retort by #ElieMystal. An awful lot of BS could be avoided if it were applied as written.

  6. @cjpaloma Many in #materialist #capitalist #societies have lost sight of the #Mazlov #hierarchy of #needs. Some are duped by the #hex of #consumer #propaganda, some are just not aware & the #elite few positively revel in living #life at the #expense of #others ✊🏽

  7. #LBGTQ Be the change, share the love. Simple really. Thanks @cjpaloma . I was looking for a concise description of #sheeple. Love ya 😎 ⬇️
"minimally engaged" types who remain impressively unaware of how they are being manipulated, used, lied to etc. "

  8. #dumb & #dumber #UKPol . The evisceration of the social sciences was #Thatchers best piece of #evil . Quite deliberate and has been compounded by every government since.
'We' can't possibly have a socially, political literate electorate. Who'd vote #Tory then?

  9. POST: look at the ridiculously divergent opinion pieces at this "news" site

In the replies: someone (apparently seriously) trying to compare Newsom to Mamdani as if they are two peas in a pod…links to a substack. (reader, they are not the same: Mamdani would just not have had have a misogynistic white nationalist on his own podcast…or criminalize homelessness, for two really. easy. examples)

Guess the demographics? Yup, if you guessed the obvious one, you'd be correct.

  10. seriously: some big name Dems have a long record of going to bat for hideously conservative Dems when they are primaried by progressives: Pelosi campaigned for ANTI ABORTION dude Cuellar instead of a young progressive, and currently Sen. Booker (who said he declined to endorse Mamdani because "not his state" is endorsing a guy... not in his state…who is running against a progressive) Examples like this happen a fair amount...but don't make big corp news for some weird reasons

  11. Lots of down ballot races could change your communities for the better or for the worse.

Check out who candidates will and won't take money from, and how much their contributors are giving to them...

And -don't- (only) rely on endorsements from liberals

with a shiny reputations from corporate news (who may seem great but quietly take tons of money from corporate PACS).

Why? Because they tend to endorse DoNothingCentrists and shut out progressives who would change the party for the better

  12. Not saying women don't fall for these things, too. They do. But for various other reasons (like the traditional provider breadwinner roles and the way hyper competition is often a huge part of the way a person "wins" at these games) men tend to become more gung ho advocates for fads that clearly …um…have some issues

  13. RE: mastodon.world/@OpenSexism/116

I'd guess predictable dynamics -also- simply because men tend to listen to men much more exclusively…and the hype is almost always championed by people MEN tend to overly trust (and those would be: highly amplified dudes, no matter how obviously un insightful they are- I mean: Trump, anyone?)

…Additionally each successful iteration is disguised enough…AND very few of marks (whether gold miners, gambling advocates, or AI guys) even realize they have biases that make them vulnerable.

  14. RE: mstdn.social/@_L1vY_/116576365

what the hell is wrong with these people?

Most countries don't even have bail at all...don't take my word for it: see for example aclupa.org/smart-justice-endin

"The United States is one of only two nations in the world that use cash bail; the other is the Philippines. Most other common law countries criminalize the practice of requiring money in exchange for pretrial liberty.

  15. This is a NORMAL reaction to encountering so much…bullshit from people (you might otherwise be attracted to), but prove themselves to be so emotionally immature they get angry upon encountering a competent human...

“Where is the pool of men who are self-sufficient and like to read, are willing to go to therapy and are not afraid of a woman who has a passport? That sounds really wild to say out loud, but I don’t feel like I’m missing a ton by choosing to read a book instead of swiping on Hinge.”

  16. CW: vulgarity inside

Patriarchy tells everyone: if a woman says or does something a bit more insightful than expected, it's either wrong, or it really can't be -that- insightful/important.

The problem isn't women being themselves, it's patriarchy relentlessly conditioning people to look to men for "how to be in the world" and not see smart women as normal.

so far too many men's dicks shrivel up when they encounter competent women. Newsflash: That's on patriarchy, not women

  17. #DecolonizeYourMind

Some of the ways our minds -get- colonized is by omission. Book banning, laws against acting or speaking in various ways, etc.

A jaw droppingly awful one I only learned about (at an art exhibit) a year or so ago is the many laws forbidding potlatch ceremonies that were enacted and enforced for decades and decades.

I didn't even know what they were. Look it up and then tell me that any of the enforced dystopias imperialistic crapitalistic cultures create are "natural".

  18. FWIW, I also tried searching for the far more popular #PizzaTate (as well as my rather niche interest in #CulturalNorms) in the search bar and got nothing, though if I click on a toot with #PizzaTate (that I have already stumbled upon) I then do see tons more toots with that hashtag

Is this a bug or a feature?

    @supernovae ?

  19. Use hashtags they say...

Okay. I used the hashtag #CulturalNorms yesterday

to try to get some engagement on my very small account...

Then I searched that hashtag today in the search bar.

    Zero results. Zero.

    What am I doing wrong?

Accessing the platform an older Mac desktop if that makes a difference

    #mastodon

  20. What's on my mind?

    #CulturalNorms

And how difficult it is to see many of our cultural norms.

Especially ones that are mostly dynamics rather than norms meant to result in material bits of culture.

I used to say: "They are there in the background, like if you've been painting in a room for a long time, you don't smell the paint anymore, but anyone coming in to the room will smell it."

But since low VOC paint became more widespread, the metaphor isn't as punchy. Any ideas?
