I think this is the first time I've read any #wuxia (Chinese martial arts fantasy), though I've certainly seen lots of films in the genre. This novella is so slight and low stakes that I don't think it will stick with me, but some of the banter is amusing and the trans / queer themes are handled well. @bookstodon #ZenCho #bookstodon

#FinishedReading a story of a Malaysian American woman returning to Penang with her parents and getting tangled up in the local ghosts, spirits, and gods. The dialogue is mostly Manglish (Malaysian English) whose distinctive syntax makes for quite a fun reading experience; I suspect #ZenCho has dialed it back a fair bit to keep it readable for non-Malaysian readers, mind. #Bookstodon @bookstodon

I finished #reading the anthology "The Best of World SF: Volume 1", which is edited by #LavieTidhar, today.
I think my favourite #ShortStory was "If At First You Don't Succeed, Try, Try Again" by #ZenCho
An imugi, having waited patiently for thousands of years, tries to ascend to dragonhood, only to fail multiple times – often because of humans.
It decides to eat the last one to foil its plans – only to discover that they have common interests. #ReadingRec #Literature #Fantasy

I should have been in bed an hour ago. But a few weeks ago, someone on this app suggested a book called #BlackWaterSister by #ZenCho
Very good #book! Not sure who recommended it, but thank you! I really enjoyed it!

Since I finished the last book I was reading (Sorcerer to the Crown by Zen Cho – I can't recommend it enough, by the way, it's an absolute delight) my reading has stuttered to a halt. Aiming to do some later, fingers crossed. Fatigue is such a bugger.

A B&N SFF original: “If at First You Don’t Succeed, Try, Try Again,” by Zen Cho.
"A hapless imugi is determined to attain the form of a full-fledged dragon and gain entry to the gates of heaven. For a long time, things don’t go well. Then, it meets a girl. The B&N Sci-Fi & Fantasy Blog presents an original short story by Campbell Award-nominated author Zen Cho."
