Couple thoughts: 1. He's from a different era when books did their thing then stopped.

In general, in the 80s books got above 200 pages, and now books are just silly long

So I think the pacing you've seen is typical for him

    2. He liked writing by thinking of a situation, a secret fact about a character that he would never reveal, then going from there, building the story in a "pants-er" way

    So maybe you don't click

I would suggest trying "A Night in the Lonesome October", the best of his late books, if you want you try one more time

  12. Oooooh!!! Remember, tomorrow you can start 1 chapter per day of "A night in the Lonesome October", by Zelazny. Each day in the life of guard dog Snuff, through each day of Oct. While unbalanced (1 chapter is a sentence, I think, and another quite long), it is still fun to do).

  20. "... this John Betancourt fellow who has purchased the rights to write Amber novels, and that he plans on releasing a prequel trilogy set in the Amber universe, and I wanted to know if you, as a friend and fan of Mr. Zelazny, have any thoughts on the matter you'd be willing to share.

Well, I remember Roger talking to me and Steve Brust. We'd just suggested that if he did an anthology of other-people-write-Amber-stories that we'd be up for it (understatement), and he puffed on his pipe, and said -- extremely firmly -- that he didn't want anyone else to write Amber stories but him."

Ah. I had been wondering. Trying to be polite here, but Roger is dead now. Sorry to hear about that ...

If you can shadow-walk from Amber to the Courts of Chaos then you probably already made the movie and we would like to see it too please

  28. Today on our podcast Re-Creative Mark A. Rayner and I talk to author Peter Darbyshire, who joined us to champion the classic Roger Zelazny fantasy series The Chronicles of Amber. I've loved Zelazny's fiction from the moment I first encountered the Amber series, and Mark's a fan as well, so Peter was in good company.
