Using the #1MinuteCriteria for websites to provide simple, non-sensitive information.
It took less than one minute to reach for the #WhitePages or #YellowPages and find the street address of a business or bank branch.
Why am I going to waste any more that 1 minute of my time fooling about with some cryptic and puerile website trying to get basic info?

Before moving to greener (and higher-paying 🤑) pastures, one of my two big "technical assistant" projects for #Comcast #Cellular was upgrading the engineers' Sun #Unix workstations from the #BSD-based #SunOS 4 to #SVR4-based SunOS 5 (#Solaris 2), and from #NIS / #YellowPages to NIS+.
In hindsight, it was a bad idea to make both changes at once, but I was a kid entranced by novelty and not yet very considerate of my users during the inevitable downtimes. (3/6)

Recently got my own copy of the Yellow Pages, and boy, I am a bit shocked.
I know that the Yellow Pages in my area are getting thinner, but I'm much more surprised that they also have the White Pages too and the fact that the page size is smaller than I thought.
They still publish it yearly, although it only applies to certain locations. Mine was from 2020-2021 while Metro Manila has the latest ones.

Did you know you can still get printed Yellow pages from Bell Canada? I just got mine. I figure it’ll be easier finding services that are actually local instead of sifting through ones that are in #Danforth Illinois or in #Riverdale from Archy cartoons that pop up in web searches.

The Yellow Pages had one hell of a run! I wish I had saved some old ones. They were like time capsules of what your local community was on any given year. They took up so much space that you couldn’t wait to throw out the old ones, but yet if you found a really old one, it was hard not to spend the next hour just flipping through it.

Yellow Pages Canada was hit by the Black Basta ransomware. The company has confirmed employee and customer data have been stolen. Security researchers were able to see some of the stolen data on the ransomware's leak website.

Other apologetics: "just call the restaurant rather than using its website." Look, I know the people who say this don't think I have a time-machine I can use to travel back to the 1980s and retrieve a #YellowPages, but it's hard not to snark at them, just the same. Scammers don't just set up fake websites for your local businesses - they staff them with fake call-centers, too. The same search that takes you to a fake website will also take you to a fake phone number.

As stated, the CloudFlare-Free #Directory website (frontend) is using Javascript to hit the public API.
You can see how it works from the browser's "View source" feature. "view-source:http://localarea…" (Line 43)
It is possible to access the API without JS.
What we will like to see in the near future is the downgrade of Amazon (and #Cloudfront!) served sites, #Akamai, Azure, and #Google sites.

The #YellowPages dropped sadly onto the front door mat a little while ago. How times have changed; it used to be a huge thick, heavy tome packed full of addresses, telephone numbers (obviously) and adverts from local businesses. It was your go-to item for an electrician or a taxi. Now, in the #interweb age, it has been reduced to pathetic A5-sized pamphlet barely 1 cm thick. Good in many ways and a little bit melancholic in others.
