  1. @anaerin Ah, look! They also have a download area with multiple releases... including the newer 2.1 (which is distinct from 2.01).

Silly of me to worry that the Internet would forget so easily about Amix...

  3. Did you know that you could install #Commodore's official #UNIX #SVR4 on your real or emulated #Amiga?

I'd like to give it a shot. The main obstacle will be obtaining the boot floppies and the installation tape. Yes, Amix was distributed on a QIC-150 tape 😎

This is where I'd turn to one of several Amiga pirate boards in the '90s, but even those are long gone 😢

  5. Before moving to greener (and higher-paying 🤑) pastures, one of my two big "technical assistant" projects for #Comcast #Cellular was upgrading the engineers' Sun #Unix workstations from the #BSD-based #SunOS 4 to #SVR4-based SunOS 5 (#Solaris 2), and from #NIS / #YellowPages to NIS+.

In hindsight, it was a bad idea to make both changes at once, but I was a kid entranced by novelty and not yet very considerate of my users during the inevitable downtimes. (3/6)

  7. Happy day! I've found and scored an old #VT220 (compatible) serial terminal for my #SVR4 #retrocomputing project.

We're about to move offices and a bunch of cool stuff just appeared in a "dispose of this" pile. There's an old Sun machine in there too that I might have to save from the crusher. :awesome:

  8. New toy day! My little SBC is here that I plan to turn into a classic 90s Unix system running System V.

Don't go hitting refresh for updates on that project, it's something I imagine I'll be stabbing at opportunistically for quite some time to come. There's a LOT missing from what I have to work with.

I might blog soon about why SVR4 is so interesting to me though.

  9. I'm very excited because I finally found an #x86 SBC board that's reasonably priced and looks like it's perfectly specced for my weird #retrocomputing adventure where I try to build a #SVR4 system and see what I can get done with it.
