Today, the Constitutional Council, the highest constitutional authority in #France ,struck down the ban on #socialmedia for persons under 15, ruling that the measure constitutes a “disproportionate infringement” of their freedom of expression. President #Macron lost. No ID verification will take place. Hopefully, the other governments and constitutional courts in #Europe and elsewhere will act in the same way.

Remember how Speaker #MikeJohnson talked about how he and his son use #CovenantEyes mutual #surveillance to check whether each other have been viewing porn? (Remember how Josh Duggar used the same software?)

The SCREEN Act is an attempt by #MikeLee to impose a similar degree of religious #voyeurism and #censorship throughout the #USA and everywhere using #US based Internet services. It would require every site that allows any form of user-generated content to collect ID from every user, and would criminalize any publication of facts (as opposed to Mike Lee's narrow-minded counterfactual dogma) about #sex, #gender, #sexuality, or #genderIdentity. It would also specifically ID verification to accessing the web from any known #VPN egress point.

If you value the 'hacker' value, DO NOT SUPPORT any form of ID Verification. Fight this shit to oblivion. If you are in only for the money, do not mind YOUR ID handled by 3rd party (meaning you should not call yourself a hacker), then sure, embrace this.

So has anyone else here not used #GanderSocial because of their requirement for #IDverification (which does not work at all via #CanadaPost #Identity+)? Like I selected that as an option but it never #verifies despite the fact I have the app fully set up. Like any #socialmedia app that has #ID #verification is gonna fail. #Gander

I struggle to fully express the visceral disgust I feel toward unnecessary #idverification, it feels degrading, like if someone said "alright, now we just need to dunk your head in a toilet and spit in your face, and then your signup will be complete!"

I can't imagine that anything I'd like to do online would feel fun after subjecting myself to that sort of degradation.

It not only damages their children but also is used to bully them.

With the news on the UK's "Phase 2" of the Online Safety Act rolling out, my focus has shifted heavily. Today's tasks are all about digital resilience and decentralization:

👉 Boosting Alternative Networks: I have to push Solent.Social and the broader Fediverse much harder.

👉 Learn New Systems: Exploring alternative platforms, as the upcoming round of strict ID verification rules will likely lock out or restrict access to mainstream spaces like TikTok and YouTube (So maybe looking at PeerTube and Loops).

👉 Content Redundancy: Pushing further into content creation while simultaneously building digital backups on alternative, self-hosted or federated systems like PeerTube or just uploading it directly to Solent.Social

👉 Alternative Comms: Researching Discord alternatives (hoping Fluxer has finally got its decentralized architecture live).


There is an immense amount of work to do before these highly invasive "safety" systems are fully implemented.

At this stage, bringing friends and family over to safer, independent digital spaces isn't just a preference, It’s a necessity! No one should be subject to this level of blanket surveillance. It treats people as criminals right out the gate and company greed causes them to harvest our personal data even further to train AI Models to replace us. This is all getting ridiculous.
