  1. Since my bookwyrm instance, bookrastinating.com is still down, maybe forever. I'll tell you about this book I'm reading. It's called Toxic and it's by Helga Flatland. All the characters are horrible. The story is horrible. It's like a car crash. I can't look away but I hate it. #bookrastinating #WhatImReadingNow

  3. #Consciousness is a labyrinth from which there is no exit.” —Michael Pollan, A World Awakens, A journey into consciousness.
    #bookstodon #whatImReadingNow
An exploration of the current state of research into the Hard Problem: what is consciousness, how does it happen, why does it happen? The main reason it’s so hard is that our only tool for exploration is our own consciousness.

  5. Butterfly Fish

I'm reading Butterfly Fish by Irenosen Okojie on the Kobo app.

"A green palm wine bottle rolled on the
wet London Street. Its movements were
audible gasps made of glass. It didn't
matter how the bottle had arrived at its
location under the curious yellow gaze
of the lamppost or whether the
    messenger had been a postman
delivering for both God and the
    dancing devil. The image unfurling
    inside the bottle shimmering like
    moonlight trapped in glass mattered.
Lick the edges of the picture presented
and you could taste the sour, sweet
    traces of palm wine."

  7. I'm currently reading The Lady Under The Lake by E.J. Russell

    What is everyone else reading?

It's book 3 of Quest Investigations, but also part of the Mythmatched Mates series.

The whole series has been addictive, and I keep coming back for more.

  9. Everybody chime in with what you're reading these days. I was a huge fan of Zahn's Quadrail series so I happily jumped onto this series too. Fun, zippy space opera with a ton of action and mysterious alien tech. #WhatImReading #WhatImReadingnow

  11. Fascinating, twisty take on AI and robots, and how their internal processes might actually work. And what our over reliance on them might very well lead to. #WhatImReading #WhatImReadingNow #AmReading

  17. #bookstodon #BluesBrothers
#WhatImReadingNow is The Blues Brothers, by Daniel de Visé, about the making of the movie by that name. For someone who grew up in the 50s 60s and 70s like I did, this is a fascinating reminiscence of those times. 1st couple chapters are exclusively on John Belushi & where he came from, & then gradually other contemporaries he played with come in, #SecondCity, #Lemmings. Haven’t got to #SNL yet. Recommend.

  19. Excellent read. One of the best tales on the multiverse I've ever read, as well as an innovative humans vs AI tale. Highly recommended. #WhatImReading #WhatImReadingNow #AmReading

  21. Fantastic exploration of the music, what brought it about, and the influences that made it what it was. A great read! #WhatImReading #WhatImReadingNow #AmReading

  22. It's started off a bit stodgy, but then it kicked into gear. Sir Patrick is not afraid to dig into the dissolution of his two marriages and his insecurities as an actor. It's an engaging, personable read. #WhatImReading #WhatImReadingNow #AmReading

  23. This book was a lot of fun. An arranged political marriage between two men to save a treaty leads to revelations of murder and an intricate plot to destroy their Empire. #WhatImReading #WhatImReadingNow #AmReading

  24. Exquisite agonies of love, race, and orientation, told in long, poetic chapters, filled with heightened conversations almost too articulate to be spoken by real people. I adore Baldwin's work. #WhatImReading #WhatImReadingNow #AmReading

  25. This series is an utter delight. Osman's dry sense of humour combines with sophisticated mystery storytelling. I hope there are more coming down the road. I love spending time with these characters. #WhatImReading #WhatImReadingNow #AmReading

  26. I've really enjoyed this series. Her take on nanotech and it's growth over centuries is really fascinating. #WhatImReading #WhatImReadingNow #AmReading

  28. A crew of six clones, responsible for a generation ship full of sleeping colonists, are decanted to discover their previous incarnations slaughtered, their ship sabotaged, and their course changed. Gripping take on the locked room mystery. #WhatImReading #WhatImReadingNow #AmReading

  29. From a military base in Ghana to Thatcher's Britain to one of the most powerful men in fashion. An interesting look into the man who changed the course of British Vogue, making it more political, and championing race, age, gender diversity in the magazine's pages. #WhatImReading #WhatImReadingNow #AmReading

  30. Re-read this exquisitely beautiful debut novel of queer awakening during the Sinhalese/Tamil upheaval in the early 80s. Sweet, sad, beautifully crafted prose. #WhatImReading #WhatImReadingNow #AmReading

  32. I love Nigel Slater's cookery shows. He's warm and accessible, and just that little bit nerdy. And I hear his in every word of this memoir of his queer childhood and journey to finding his passion. #WhatImReading #WhatImReadingNow #AmReading

  33. Oof. I knew Hollywood could be awful, but I had no idea. It's fascinating to dig into the incredibly problematic histories of shows like Lost and Sleepy Hollow, to name a few. Whether you love or hate Hollywood, this is an enthralling, disturbing read. #WhatImReading #WhatImReadingNow #AmReading

  34. Who'd have thought a series of essays using sea creatures to illuminate the author's life could be so engrossing? Lovely, emotionally raw prose from enby writer, Sabrina Imbler. #WhatImReading #WhatImReadingNow #AmReading

  35. A must read for anyone who loves words. Tom Read Wilson is a delight as a writer, podcaster, and human. Highly recommended. #WhatImReading #WhatImReadingNow #AmReading

  36. @onqueerstreet Thanks to my obsession with #ebooks from my #libraries (yes, more than one), my #WhatImReadingNow is obnoxious. Yardley was interviewed on #HeavingBosoms podcast (recommend if you're into romance; they cover all over the place) and I had pre-ordered the book! I got through 83% of it yesterday so I'm finishing it today after work.

  38. This is sort of like reading a book about a member of the Manson family. The MC starts out so thoroughly brainwashed, and then gets shoved out into the real world to slowly see the truth. Excellent debut novel with some impressive worldbuilding. #WhatImReading #WhatImReadingNow #AmReading

  40. I've never actually read this. But the film was one of those pivotal Queer cinema moments for me, in those early days of finally seeing positive Queer portrayals onscreen. Such an interesting history behind the writing and publication. #WhatImReading #WhatImReadingNow #AmReading

  41. Fascinating look at queerness in red state USA, where Queer people seem to be far more engaged and committed, as they know exactly what they're fighting for. Makes a good case against the complacency of the communities in Queer enclave states and cities. #WhatImReading #WhatImReadingNow #AmReading

  42. This is fabulously inventive take on the first contact story. Thoroughly enjoying Emrys' take on the ethical issues of a post environmental collapse world as it meets alien visitors #WhatImReading #WhatImReadingNow #AmReading

  43. What if Jessica Fletcher from Murder, She Wrote was really mad that all those people kept dying? And she lived on a space station with aliens? #WhatImReading #WhatImReadingNow #AmReading

  44. And for #WhatImReadingNow I've decided to go in a different direction.

  45. Read this trilogy long enough ago that I've forgotten the details. Solid near future worldbuilding, and I always love an SF book set in Toronto. #WhatImReading #WhatImReadingNow #AmReading

  46. I love this series so much. #ModestyBlaise would make an amazing film franchise if handled well and properly cast. Like, James Bond level stuff here. #WhatImReading #WhatImReadingNow #AmReading
