Late last week, I saw someone talking about adding something to open source websites that sounded exactly like the webrings from the 90s/2000s, and I promised to make the first steps of a personal knowledge management webring. That's live now at https://brainframe.tech/going-beyond-brainframe/ and I'd love to turn it into a real webring, not just a list of links on my own app's site. The fediverse is a unique and wonderful place. It gives even forgotten ideas a chance to come back in more useful ways than ever.

I saw someone today pondering the ability to have "if you liked what I have here, you might like this other thing I know about" as a part of their own site, and I immediately remembered webrings from the late 90s early 00s. Yes, I mentioned it, and I truly hope they make a comeback in some form.

They were a great way to share the stuff that we find cool. And I love the idea enough that, this weekend, I'm going to add exactly that to my own app site. It won't be a true webring, but it'll be my own start to helping out.

Finally https://blr.indiewebclub.org/webring links are actually a circular chain instead of linking to random ones. The previous setup would sometimes create 0 or 1 hop loops. Now it would be great if people would actually join our #webring.

Warp Point: a Web Ring for Gaming Sites Built for 2026

Just discovered Warp Point which is primarily a blog directory specialising in independent games journalism with the webring side of things being optional.

It was only launched a few days ago (with no random button sadly but it's on the todo list) and there's already lots of cool stuff in there. If you have have your own indie blog where you write about games you should consider joining!

I'm doing my part, but search engines don't push cool non-profit stuff anymore. So - a few of us decided to bring back web rings.

I joined a web ring dedicated to (non-AI) digital art.
