  11. Personally I don't think we should have nukes at all, though I accept that reasonable people may take different views.

But surely if we must have nukes, then we shouldn't need permission from a hostile foreign power before we can use them. That's unbelievably bonkers.

  12. @chowderman
Thank you. The article states that when they are retired (most are still in service), they will have served over 40 years. I hope compelling MPs to discuss the matter will force them to quantify that cost of refurbishment and associated training, and where that money gets spent (probably mostly in the UK), and weigh that up against the benefit it would confer to Ukraine, and the other spending options that might compete for that money. I understand we're committing 5% of GDP on defence spending. I'd love to see it spent in the UK. If these vehicles are going to be scrapped, and if so doing it is economical, I would like to see them turned to scrap on the battlefield, protecting the lives (and sovereignty) of our allies.

  13. Did you know the UK is set to dispose of over 600 Warrior IFVs? What if we could turn this into a lifeline for Ukraine?

Join the movement! Please sign the petition now to urge Parliament to debate the future of our surplus Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs): petition.parliament.uk/petitio or consider boosting this post for visibility.

I try to avoid de-novo political posts, but this feels to me like it isn't just about politics; it's about supporting a nation fighting for its freedom. I hope we might unite for a cause that transcends party lines.

    Why should we consider this?

    - Cost-effective: Refurbishing these vehicles (or breaking them for spares) in the UK instead of donating new vehicles could save taxpayers money.

    - Support Ukraine: Strengthening Ukraine's military is crucial for European stability.

    - Timely Action: The sooner we act, the better prepared Ukraine will be.

With the UK set to dispose of these vehicles soon, we must act now to ensure they serve a greater purpose.

If you can find it in your heart to boost this issue for visibility, &/or reply with hashtags I have not thought to add, I would be profoundly grateful.

  14. If this turns out to be true, it will be a total betrayal of Europe and our own workforce by the UK gov. The article explains it well, for the UK to defend itself, the Eurofighter is the right option.

Also, when the world is the most uncertain it's been since the cold war, and everyone is scrambling to re-arm. What is Britain going to do... Mothball its 2nd aircraft carrier!

#theBritishWay Cut back and side with the new fascist in town. Pathetic! #ukDefence #starmer

  15. CW: Air raid alerts across Ukraine after a massive wave of Russian missiles

    @fulelo
This shows how vulnerable modern society is to disruption of electricity supplies and the effectiveness of missile systems.
How resilient would the UK be in these circumstances ?

Furthermore to your point #defence of #England would be vastly more compromised by #Scotland achieving #independence taking a third of GB land area with it, including many vital facilities for #ukDefence than any changes that concern the #EU
