  1. "It includes £47bn on new nuclear submarines and £5bn more on drones, £1bn more than announced in last year’s strategic spending review."

See what Russia's nuclear arsenal does for it? Imagine, you could spend £5 billion on drones and protect the nation while also funding infrastructure projects or you can pretend you're a superpower still and keep up the nuclear submarine illusion.

  2. A Russian warship firing at civilian craft in the English Channel and I get the feeling the Government only heard about it when the rest of us did.

Is there no frigate tailing this Russian ship or something? Is it in the Strait of Hormuz instead?

  4. Honestly, how much money could be saved by cutting stuff we don't need from the Military Industrial Complex when thousands of drones and the pilots to fly them are what we need.
Expensive American jets, tanks and APCs that don't really work but make shareholders rich, shit like that.

We don't have to starve ourselves to defend ourselves, that's idiotic and right-wing (but that's Labour!)

  6. "It further weakens Starmer in that this was supposed to be his strong point - and has repeatedly said that keeping nation safe is his number one priority."

lol, in what way has that useless coward 'kept us safe?'

By crawling up Trump's ass? Look where that got him
By telling off Elon Musk on Twitter? Amazingly, the World's Richest Man has not calmed down...what now Keir?

  7. That fucking tank, which is more drone bait. And the personnel carrier which makes passengers ill somehow, and is also drone bait.

We could defend our nation and not have to cut from other budgets by dropping some boondoggles that won't work in the real world.

  8. I remain unconvinced that these things are anything more but lumbering behemoths in the Drone War. They are what Battleships were to the WWII theatre, powerful but vulnerable and outdated by new developments, (ironically 'Aircraft Carriers')

Thinking about how much of the Russian Navy Ukraine has taken out without any aircraft carriers or missile cruisers

    Also, they are fucking expensive.

  9. "The world is an increasingly dangerous place, Starmer is being told, and now is not the time for delay or half-measures."

Unfortunately , being a caretaker PM is what Starmer is here to do.

Do we really think Burnham can turn this ship around though?

  10. Probably wise not to be a lorry driver on stolen land right now.....war is hell, isn't it?

Ukraine did this without any real help from the UK, perhaps some money but our expertise is outdated now and we are a silly island.

  11. Imagine if today's Labour Government were planning D-Day

  12. RE: mastox.eu/@ZackPolanski/116731

Labour has left our nation undefended from Russian and American aggression.
The Russians fuck with us physically, the Americans fuck with us socially and financially.

The Yanks are causing race riots in the UK via their social media networks and the Labour Government won't do a thing to stop them. And they make promises to Ukraine which they don't deliver on, the training we offer is outdated, we're all talk and no trousers.

  13. Labour can either defend the nation or sell it out to the highest bidder. What do we think the Party of Peter Mandelson is doing?

  14. A weak, indecisive leader, the man is a Neville Chamberlain for the 21st Century, an Epstein Class stooge who cannot think for himself.
We know Starmer is shit on defence because we've had foreign instigated pogroms on our streets for two days straight and he's not done anything, no COBRA meetings, nothing.

    "Whites Will Be Whites" ...innit?

  15. Empty promises and an inability to see the threats that are facing this country, Fascism, Climate Change and nations such as Russia and the USA who think they should dominate us.

Starmer is a just a rabbit in the headlights, no leadership, no initiative, just a man out of his depth.
But then Burnham won't be much different, will he?

What are we doing about the Drone War Mr Prime Minister?

  18. Personally I don't think we should have nukes at all, though I accept that reasonable people may take different views.

But surely if we must have nukes, then we shouldn't need permission from a hostile foreign power before we can use them. That's unbelievably bonkers.

  19. @chowderman
Thank you. The article states that when they are retired (most are still in service), they will have served over 40 years. I hope compelling MPs to discuss the matter will force them to quantify that cost of refurbishment and associated training, and where that money gets spent (probably mostly in the UK), and weigh that up against the benefit it would confer to Ukraine, and the other spending options that might compete for that money. I understand we're committing 5% of GDP on defence spending. I'd love to see it spent in the UK. If these vehicles are going to be scrapped, and if so doing it is economical, I would like to see them turned to scrap on the battlefield, protecting the lives (and sovereignty) of our allies.

  20. Did you know the UK is set to dispose of over 600 Warrior IFVs? What if we could turn this into a lifeline for Ukraine?

Join the movement! Please sign the petition now to urge Parliament to debate the future of our surplus Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs): petition.parliament.uk/petitio or consider boosting this post for visibility.

I try to avoid de-novo political posts, but this feels to me like it isn't just about politics; it's about supporting a nation fighting for its freedom. I hope we might unite for a cause that transcends party lines.

    Why should we consider this?

    - Cost-effective: Refurbishing these vehicles (or breaking them for spares) in the UK instead of donating new vehicles could save taxpayers money.

    - Support Ukraine: Strengthening Ukraine's military is crucial for European stability.

    - Timely Action: The sooner we act, the better prepared Ukraine will be.

With the UK set to dispose of these vehicles soon, we must act now to ensure they serve a greater purpose.

If you can find it in your heart to boost this issue for visibility, &/or reply with hashtags I have not thought to add, I would be profoundly grateful.
