I can't imagine the Syrians, weak as they currently may be, letting this stand. Turkiye and Iran will also oppose this. WWIII is going to start in the Middle East thanks to Israel.
Netanyahu is a narcissist, his government is psychopathic, and Israel is a morally corrupt state behaving in a sociopathic manner. This will not end well for anyone.

The Third World War in Kim Stanley Robinsons "Mars Trilogy" had something very similar happen, but in 2061....and people were living on Mars. Climate Change was a big theme too, I felt it was very prophetic as I read it in the 90s.

Gee, that WWIII thing seems to be heating up.
Not so much the full scale nuclear wars of past nightmares, but general melee as the Climate collapses because the depraved rulers of Earth would rather destroy things than let people fix them.

@cstross It would appear Russia is at war with Europe, and yet our 'ally' the United States is helping them tacitly.
European Governments don't want to admit this openly, not on this stupid island at least. I don't think the new guy will stand up to Washington.
